Le Miroir album
$15.15 This collection of tracks by pop singer, Billy Vaughn, features such trademark songs as "La Paloma", "Lili Marleen", and "Blue Hawaii".
Studio orchestra leader Billy Vaughn may have been even more popular in Germany in the 1950s and '60s than he was in the U.S., which helps explain why the most comprehensive compilation of his work originates there. This two-CD, 50-track album of original Dot Records recordings contains 20 of Vaughn's 28 Billboard Hot 100 chart entries, including the major U.S. hits "Melody of Love," "The Shifting Whispering Sands," "Sail Along Silvery Moon" and "Raunchy." Then there are songs that topped the German charts, like "Wheels" and "La Paloma." The set has a definite German tilt, with such titles as "Zwei Gitarren Am Meer and "Unter Dem Doppeladler" on the song list (both of ...

| | Dream Theater When Dream & Day Unite CD (1989) Germany; Originally Released in 1989
Le Miroir songs
$13.95 WHEN DREAM & DAY UNITE, the major label debut from prog-metal act Dream Theater, includes the tracks "YTSE Jam" and "Only A Matter Of Time."
Dream Theater's first official release gave an indication that this was a talented band that combined the styles of Yes, Rush, and Queensr˙che. The latter seemed to be too big of an influence at this stage of their career. Vocalist Charlie Dominici's voice is not powerful enough to carry out the band's otherwise convincing intensity, and his attempt to sound like Queensr˙che's Geoff Tate was unsuccessful. The music here is not as heavy as it would become in the '90s but could still be classified as progressive metal. Guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy established themselves as competent musicians, but their individual styles were not yet refined. The band's originality does shine through on "Light Fuse and Get Away," "The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun," and "Only a Matter of Time." The odd-meter measures and numerous time changes gave the group a complexity that hadn't been experienced for an entire decade in the rock genre. "YTSE Jam" was essentially their answer to Rush's "YYZ" and became a staple in the band's live set. The session was marred mostly by subpar singing, too many metal clichés, and poor production. There is, however, enough interesting playing to make it a worthwhile listen for fans of this genre, and is certainly essential for Dream Theater fans. ~ Robert Taylor
The official label debut album of the progressive metal band incorporated musical ideas from their predecessors like Yes, Genesis, Queensryche, Rush and the like and forged their own distinctive imprint. Players John Petrucci on ...

| | Victor Jara Canto Por Travesura CD (1973)
Le Miroir album
$13.95 This album from the legendary Chilean folk artist features 18 tracks.
True to the title ("travesura" translates roughly as "prank") and the cover drawing of a cat pulling up the curtain on an old hag in déshabillé, Canto Por Travesura is largely comprised of light material from Victor Jara. Every selection but one is a traditional song given a new arrangement by Jara. Songs like "La Palmatoria," "Iba Yo Para una Fiesta," and "La Diuca" aren't powerhouses, but they have the simple grace that pervades all of Jara's recordings. ~ John Bush
Legendary Chilean folk singer-songwriter/political prisoner who suffered a tragic death at the National Football Stadium in his country. The 1973 cover ...

Le Miroir album
$18.59 Appearing in 1984, seemingly from out of nowhere, Autograph, unsigned at the time, were hand picked by Van Halen to open a mammoth North American concert trek - an accomplishment that quickly led to their inking with industry giant RCA Records and an ensuing hit single, the energetic and infectious, 'Turn Up The Radio' which made the US top 30. Feted and championed by the hard rock cognoscenti (supporters included Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne) this Los Angeles based quintet made all the right noises to further enhance their career by packing both melody and muscle into their music. Recording a string of highly successful albums the band peaked with this, their third album, unleashing a beast of significant fire power and songs that would stand not only the test of time but would also improve with age. Produced by Brit legend Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Humble Pie, Cinderella) the album exudes Class-A hard rock all the way. One of the all time great yet largely overlooked albums of the 80's LA scene. Rock Candy. 2006.
