| | Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline CD Stars Of The Lid Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Over five years in the making, this marathon double CD set is perhaps Stars Of The Lid's finest two hours. Stately and deliberate, it recalls a comet's majestic procession through the outer reaches of space, while the titles ("December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface," "That Finger on Your Temple Is the Barrel of My Raygun") show that even painstakingly constructing monolithic and harmonious sonic drones doesn't mean you have to abandon your sense of humor.
Stars of the Lid: Adam Bryan Wiltzie, Brian McBride.
The Wire (p.57) - "[With] an inner calm that's born of the abandoning of the temporal, sourcing intimate immensity from the patient unfurling of gentle, considered, weightless compositions." And Their Refinement Of The Decline album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously ...
| | Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning CD (2005)
And Their Refinement Of The Decline CD music
$10.79 In early 2005, young indie icon Conor Oberst (AKA Bright Eyes) unveiled two full-length albums--I'M WIDE AWAKE, IT'S MORNING and DIGITAL ASH IN A DIGITAL URN. Whereas the latter proved to be a departure into electronic music, the former sticks to Oberst's established sound, which combines the urgency and heart-on-the-sleeve sentiment of emo-rock with twangy, down-home feel of alt-country and folk music.
I'M WIDE AWAKE begins with Oberst telling a story that morphs into "At the Bottom of Everything," a jangly, upbeat tune featuring My Morning Jacket's Jim James on backing vocals. Throughout the record, Oberst reaches nearly hysterical peaks, seemingly overcome with emotion as his wavering voice, which often recalls Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano, veers almost, but not quite, ...

| | Battles Mirrored CD (2007)
And Their Refinement Of The Decline album
$12.89 If modern day indie music appears to consist of an endless queue of groups that are either bland emo retreads or glitzy disco punkers, it is then that much more refreshing to encounter a band like Battles. With a lineage that consists of some of indie rock's most accomplished musicians, Battles is a veritable neo-prog supergroup, though one that embraces the possibilities of technology used in tandem with instrumental virtuosity.
MIRRORED, the band's debut full-length makes its intent clear from the onset--to ingest 50 years of rock history and regurgitate it as fractilized micro-symphonies. ...

| | Mission Horus CD (2005)
And Their Refinement Of The Decline CD music
$7.99 A theatrical explosion on the Portland Metal Scene in 1998, Mission Horus was a 4 piece Sci-Fi metal band which referred to its genre as "Cybercore." Big drums, heavy guitar riffs and spooky synths set amidst post apocalyptic lyrics. Their debut 5 song self titled EP is a must have for fans who enjoy the cool riffs of NWBHM and the mind-fucking alternate universe of current poetry metal acts like Tool. Or if you're into space swashbuckling this is your new favorite CD.“Sprawling, hellbent cybercore. Dramatic, spooky and pissed!” -Scott Wagner, The Rocket 1998“Oooh! Scary! It all sounds pretty metal to me, but seeing as how the future is here today, Portland's Mission Horus coat their dark riffage in a fine shellac, resulting in that industrial cyber-sheen that suggests a mad super computer revolting against its human programmers. It's a brain-corroding blast, mixing up granite foundation of Sabbath as ...
