| | Judas Priest Hell Bent For Leather CD (1979)
To Mega Therion CD music
$6.25 The British version of this release is titled KILLING MACHINE.
Principally recorded at Utopia, Basing Street and CBS Studios, London, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Judas Priest's 1979 release, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (titled KILLING MACHINE in Europe), continued the band's late '70s winning streak, which included such metal classics as SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, SIN AFTER SIN, and STAINED CLASS. Such deliciously heavy tracks as "Delivering the Goods," the title track, the U.K. hit single "Take On the World," and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)," showed that nobody could touch singer Rob Halford and company when it came to power metal. Landing a spot as the opening act on Kiss' U.S. tour the same year, Priest were gearing up for a major worldwide breakthrough--eventually becoming one of the '80s top heavy metal acts.
In 1979, Judas Priest was growing more and more influential. And as the 1980s progressed, it would become crystal clear that the British ...

| | Linkin Park Reanimation CD (2002) Digipak
To Mega Therion album
$12.79 REANIMATION is an album of remixes of songs from HYBRID THEORY.
The runaway success of Linkin Park's debut album HYBRID THEORY was a phenomenon the rock world had seldom seen since Guns 'N Roses turned the rock world on it's ear with APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION. With the band preparing a follow-up, an eclectic assembly of both underground and mainstream contributors de- and re-construct the music of Linkin Park on REANIMATION, under the direction of bandmember Mike Shinoda.
While the requisite remixes are present, REANIMATION is not your typical remix album. Black Thought (of the Roots) chops up Linkin Park samples for his own rap spotlight on "X-Ecutioner Style," an approach also taken up on "H! Vltg3" by Pharoahe Monch and Dilated Peoples members Evidence and DJ Babu. "Enth E End" gets reinvented by veteran producer Kurtmaster Kurt, with verses laid down by the up-and-coming MC Motion Man. Korn's Jonathan ...

| | Crucified Barbara In Distortion We Trust CD (2006) Enhanced CD
To Mega Therion music CDs
$13.89 Despite their youth, Crucified Barbara's debut, In Distortion We Trust, is obviously the work of a band already brimming with ideas and influences gained over years of hard graft in Sweden's rock & roll trenches. What it lacks is the songwriting maturity to match, resulting in a remarkably solid and occasionally thrilling collection of hard rock and metal, with glimpses of punk, grunge, and Sunset Strip-style glam metal peeking through. Part of the problem is that Crucified Barbara's songs usually live and die by their riffs, which are so ironclad and unforgiving, there's little room for anything resembling a counterpoint or a catchy lick to spice them up. This is especially evident on the title track, "I Need a Cowboy from Hell" and "Going Down" -- both of which suffer from spells of melodically stunted guitars alternately reminiscent of Swedish Alice in Chains wannabes Drain S.T.H., Southern-American nu-metal crew Stuck Mojo, and Stone Temple Pilots at their faux-grungiest. Others simply don't entirely fulfill the promise of their titles (see the suggestive "I Wet Myself") or lack the arranging finesse to back up forcibly clever lyrics like "Rock'n'Roll Bachelor." Then again, the band hits an inspired bulls-eye with these same ingredients on "Play Me Hard (The Bachelor's Guitar)," which makes one wonder what the ...
| | Gogan Wheels CD (2002)
To Mega Therion songs
$20.25 The early seventies in London was a time of leftist ideals and women's liberation in rock music. It was the beginning of punk rock, and Barbara Gogan felt the pull of this musical revolution from a very early age. Leaving her Noyers-sur-Jabron commune in France, the 18-year-old Gogan moved into a London squat and became forever known as one of the founding members of punk rock in the London band The Derelicts. In the post-punk '80s, Gogan's bandmates changed, as did her music. She fronted the London band The Passions, had two chart-topping singles, and will forever retain her pop-star status with legions of fans. The hit single, ...

If vintage blues piano is your pleasure, then you’ll want to make it your business with the latest offering in authentic American blues from Labor RecordsREVIEW / Cadence (the original 1976 review)Roosevelt Sykes has enjoyed a long and prolific career. Since his recording debut in the late 1920s until the present day, Sykes has waxed innumerable records in a variety of settings. His more recent albums for Delmark were alright but nothing special and I was not really sure what to expect of this (Blue) Labor release. I am pleased to report a positive response. First, I must point out that his supporting ...
