Critical praise for Amateur Hour's debut EP, Hold On, Believe:"... a hit!""The songs are easygoing and refined with lots of harmonies and upbeat melodies.”- indiepages.com"Perriello proves he has the talent, and more importantly the promise to make great generational music.""... feel-good melodies, with charming lyrics, beautiful harmonies and catchy riffs.""... deliciously seductive."- The Breeze, James Madison University"Beyond the term radio-friendly."- smother.netAmateur Hour is a new band featuring songs by Dan Perriello, a multi-instrumentalist and active contributor to the Washington, DC music scene. The group's acclaimed new EP, "Hold On, Believe," an independent release, is available for sale online and at the band's performances. Eschewing trendy larger-than-life production, Dan and engineer/mixer Jeremy Koller acheived a warm, natural sound on "Hold On, Believe." Sonically, the EP has more in common with vintage soul records (see Al Green's Hi! albums) than the heavily-processed, over-hyped tracks in vogue in the pop market. The emphasis on substance over style is echoed in Amateur Hour's songs themselves: direct, heartfelt lyrics; subtly sophisticated arrangements. Melody and vibe are what matter here, not sonic trickery or self-concious production.Amateur Hour marks a musical departure for Dan, who's been the drummer with DC band Bicycle Thieves since 2001, and also backs singer/songwriter Laura Burhenn. In addition to writing the six songs on "Hold On, Believe," he sings and plays guitars, bass, drums and percussion on each track. Fueled by a love for the timeless pop of Motown and Stax records and the gritty guitar-driven sound of Big Star and mid-period Beatles, Amateur Hour aims at the universality evident in the best pop music. Stressing simplicity and common experience, Amateur Hour songs range from joyous to pleading, from hopeful to sexy. Amateur Hour Hold On Believe Songs | 1. | Throwing Stones |

Hold On Believe album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break that spell. But for those already enchanted by the Orchestra, this will continue to enthrall.

| | Bob Dylan Christmas In The Heart CD (2009)
Hold On Believe CD music
$12.85 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must Be Santa," which barrelhouses like ...

| | Pink Martini Splendor In The Grass CD (2009) Digipak
Hold On Believe CD music
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna Nanna" and the title track, on which Forbes sings "I think we should ...

Hold On Believe album
$16.45 Pollo Del Mar drags surf music kicking and screaming into the new millinneum, updating the classic sound of twangy, reverb soaked Fender guitars by mixing in layers of atmospheric feedback, and pummeling it all deep into the ocean with a powerhouse rhythm section. Pollo Del Mar's all instrumental set consists of original songs, with the occasional vintage surf tune, or interpretations of compositions by Edvard Grieg, Frank Zappa, Henry Mancini, and The Dead Kennedys. Your hosts for the evening: Jono Jones suavely stands at center stage; his greatest guitar influences: Hugh Hefner and David Niven. Jeff Turner on fretless bass, a portable energy packet and low-end rocket launch pad. Jeremy Rexford, beating the skins into submission, teaching them a painful lesson they will not soon forget! Ferenc Dobronyi, versatile man about town, roadie, do-gooder and occasional lead guitarist.Formed in 1993, 3 Studio CDs, 1 Live CD, appearances on 20 tributes and compilation CDs, 1 European tour and a Japan tour is planned for November 2005. All instrumental, lots of odd influences, but still based in the surf sound. Here is what some nice people had to say about our new CD "The Golden State":"Pollo Del Mar craft lilting, cinematic vistas, without ever losing sight of surf's classic melodic sensibilities. Very well done." - Guitar Player"One of the best releases of 2004" - Discoveries"One of the hottest instrumental rock bands on the scene today"- 20th Century Guitar"Pollo ...
