Let me tell you why I like this one... (besides the fact that it's our first record Woooooooh!) it's totally DIY with love on this one ... This is James' (songwriter)first album of stories and riff's...every tune has a totally different vibe... I recorded the majority of it myself with two tracks recorded by Alex at Chicago's own "Long Divsion Recording" and I feel like it's taken on the souls of the various practice spaces, basements, apartments, studios and attics that we recorded in... we went through so much sh*t together as a band during the making of this, I think that's why I love it so much. One of my favorite tunes is "Before the Scholars" when Brad shreds a solo and then James takes a chordal solo and then they weave their solos together...badass! and of course my even more favoritist thing about this disc is that we made the insert a fold-out poster... represent. I've been writing silly poems and song lyrics for as long as I can remember. When I was little, we lived in Chicago, and my Dad used to play a rhyming game with me. I'd say a word, he'd say one that rhymed, then back to me until we couldn't think of any more new words. I always knew when it was time to go to bed because I'd say "ham", he'd say "scram." I'd say "caboose", he'd say "vamoose" and so on. When I was in high school I wrote several humorous poems for the school newspaper. Melody learned to sing and love music almost before she learned to talk. Born the eighth of nine children in a family that loved music, she was the only one given a musical name. Although it caused much humor since her name is Melody, she quickly learned to hear and sing harmony. At the age of 19, Melody grabbed the family guitar and went to work at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for the summer. There she sat out on the rim of the canyon, taught herself how to play and started writing her first songs. Marriage and raising her two children became her heart's joy and center of attention. Music was put on the back burner, but the passion she holds for Music kept bubbling within. It wasn't long before Melody got back into her delight by joining the Radiant Faces Gospel Choir in which she quickly became one of the lead singers. She met Leon C., a former Platter, and asked if she could fulfill a dream and be his back-up for just one night. That one night lasted for about four years until she met Isa January and they formed the duo PowerHeart. Under the direction of Isa, she quickly moved into the front singer spotlight. PowerHeart performed at many stand-up clubs in Las Vegas such as Larry's Hideaway, Rum Runner, Office 2 and Club Diamond to name a few. They also performed for private parties at major casinos such as Flamingo Hilton, Mirage, and Arizona Charlies. Melody enjoyed these venues and fine tuned her performance and professional skills. She was invited to sing at Spiritual Retreats and Churches and discovered a sense of personal fulfillment.
