Single Collection album
$6.79 The Guess Who always seemed a bit like the Canadian predecessor/counterpart to Grand Funk Railroad, but they typically fared far better with the critics because of the versatility that they possessed. That trait is very evident on this collection of hits and great songs. From the opening "These Eyes," with its orchestral strings and Zombies-like baroque pop feel to the classic AOR crunge of "American Woman," the Guess Who played a wide variety of music. It is sometimes hard to believe that the same group that brought the world the jazzy "Undun" and the CS&N-ish hippie anthem "Share the Land" is also responsible for the rocking "No Time." This 11-track collection paints a very entertaining picture of a mutli-talented band and is a perfect introduction for the casual fan. ~ Gary Hill and Tim Sendra

| | Israel Iz Kamakawiwo'Ole Alone In Iz World CD (2001)
Single Collection music CDs
$13.29 While the name Israel Kamakawiwo'ole falls trippingly off few tongues, the Hawaiian singer better known as "Iz" was one of the biggest stars in his home state. Iz first came to public attention as a member of the popular Hawaiian group known as the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. His subsequent solo career brought even greater fame, and countless fans were saddened at his untimely death in 1997. Those who mourn his passing will be gladdened by the posthumous release of ALONE IN IZ WORLD, compiled from various recording session outtakes.
While one might expect a big, deep sound to emanate from a gargantuan-sized body like that of Iz, the hefty singer actually possessed a gorgeous, fragile tenor voice full of tenderness and delicacy. That voice is put to use here on tunes that alternate between voice-and-ukelele solo performances (Iz was no slouch on the uke) and more fully arranged tunes enhanced after the singer's death. Whether crooning in his native tongue or in English, Iz cuts right through to the heart of the listener with his pure, emotive tone.

$16.45 Luba Dvorak \" Parts for Sale\"\"It seems to me I\'m always one record ahead of myself. When I finish making one I already have an idea what the next one will be like. I had a bunch of songs that didn\'t fit the band and after my solo acoustic tour of Europe in the winter of 2001, I realized that I needed to make a record like \"Parts for Sale.\" These songs were mostly written on the road somewhere between Vancouver, Amsterdam, Prague, Las Vegas and LA. I did a lot of touring last year and we recorded these songs in between tours at home in Vancouver. This was the first recording I\'ve done that\'s all live-off-the-floor and will only record that way from now on. Everybody just got together at the studio in Vancouver, Allan (producer) threw up some mic\'s and pressed the record button. Kenny Aronoff (Mellencamp, Bob Dylan) played drums on half of it and as usual it was unreal to work with him again. He really makes you play better. It was also great to have Dave Reimer, Robbie Steininger, Pete Baroni, Scott Smith and Mike Norman along.... Thanx Guys! - Luba, May 2003. Luba Dvorak was born in Brno, Czech Republic. The son of a blacksmith father and factory-working mother immigrated with his parents and brother to Canada at the age of seven, after spending a year in Austria. Music was always in the family, Luba\'s father was a well respected musician in the Czech Republic, and a few steps down the family tree will show that Luba is a descendent of the famous composer Antonin Dvorak. \"I remember as a kid going on many camping trips with my family. My dad would play bluegrass and country tapes in the van and I guess I soaked those things up, and couldn\'t help but be influenced by them. The first concert my dad took me to was Willie Nelson & Family so that explains a lot\" \"Parts for Sale\" was self released in May 2003 to great critical praise and has kept Luba busy. He\'s begun work on his next project and is currently living in ...
