Light The Universe album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's come to pass. The group's second release for Roadrunner, whose title apparently refers to "coming full circle" rather than any sort of goodbye, finds the latest iteration of Megadeth-- debuting new guitarist Chris Broderick(ex-Nevermore, Jag Panzer)--working primarily ...
| | Nazareth Hair Of The Dog CD (1975)
Light The Universe CD music
$7.99 Although Nazareth had already broken into the big time in England with their 1973 release RAZAMANAZ, the band had yet to crack the U.S. market. Their stateside break came two years later in the form of 1975's HAIR OF THE DOG. By keeping to their high voltage rock formula the Scots band finally won U.S. rock fans over, though it didn't hurt that they included one slight musical departure, the ...

| | Bon Jovi CD (1984) Remastered
Light The Universe album
$8.09 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack.
"Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave ...

| | Anthrax State Of Euphoria CD (1988)
Light The Universe music CDs
$8.15 1988's STATE OF EUPHORIA became Anthrax's first gold-certified full-length album shortly after its release, as the band was introduced to a wide new audience by opening up a stateside tour for Ozzy Osbourne. But although the band picked up new fans, many of Anthrax's old guard felt that this sixth overall release pushed the band in a less-than-savory commercial direction. Though not as strong as 1986's AMONG THE LIVING, STATE OF EUPHORIA still proved to be a much-needed alternative to much of the soft glam metal being proliferated by MTV and pop radio at the time.
In keeping with the band's past couple of releases, Scott Ian's lyrics are quite thought-provoking and imaginative. "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" addresses the ripping of older bands ...
| | Saxon Heavy Metal Thunder CDs (2002)
Light The Universe songs
$13.65 Disc 2 is and Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
In 2002, Saxon celebrated their 25th anniversary. Creatively, the British headbangers have had their ups and downs over the years -- Saxon's albums have ranged from superb to lackluster -- and they have certainly had more than their share of lineup changes. But the band has proved to be admirably durable; many of the other bands that came out of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late '70s were long gone by the '90s (let alone the 21st century). Heavy Metal Thunder is a 25th anniversary celebration from Saxon's 2001/2002 lineup, which consists of two original members (singer Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn) and more recent additions Doug Scarratt (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass), and Fritz Randow (drums). Upon seeing the list of songs, some might assume that this two-CD set is a best-of or a traditional anthology. But it is neither of those things. The material on Heavy Metal Thunder actually falls into two main categories; disc one is devoted to studio re-recordings of early classics like "Motorcycle Man" and "Strong Arm of the Law," while disc two's primary focus is a 2002 show in San Antonio, TX. And surprisingly, the studio tracks paint a more attractive picture of Saxon; although the San Antonio performances are enjoyable, the sound quality isn't as sharp or as clean as it should have been. Disc two sounds like the sort of bootleg that you get from a second-rate soundboard -- in other words, a soundboard that gives the bootlegger a recording that is good but not great. Heavy Metal Thunder is not recommended to those who have only a casual interest ...
