| | Breaking Benjamin Phobia: Collector's Edition CD Breaking Benjamin Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
The deluxe version features 15 videos, a live concert video, and some rare acoustic tracks.
On its third full-length album, PHOBIA, the Pennsylvania-based heavy-rock act Breaking Benjamin offers up another potent round of moody, riff-laden tunes. While "The Diary of Jane" revels in sheer ferocity and recalls Bush, the emotive "Breath" carries echoes of early Tool, revealing that the ensemble is intent on staying true to its 1990s alt-metal forebears. Although these influences place the group, led by emotive vocalist Ben Burnley, in the company of Nickelback and Godsmack, Breaking Benjamin distinguishes itself with a sense of earnestness and a knack for melody matched by few of its peers. While fans of the band will undoubtedly embrace PHOBIA, the consistently engaging release may also win Breaking Benjamin a new set of admirers as well.
This set includes the first release ever of a concert-length video from the band. The concert was recorded in Allentown, PA on February 11, 2007 in front of thousands of the band's hometown fans. It features all the hits that made them one of the premier rock bands working today. This title carries a parental advisory.

Phobia: Collector's Edition
$7.39 "Do Something" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
"I Try" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
The song was nominated for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
It was no mean feat for an R&B singer debuting in 1999 to embody the aesthetics of vintage soul without resorting to retro '70s stylings. On her first album, Macy Gray manages to bring old-school values to a very contemporary sound. One is immediately struck by Gray's unique, sandpapery voice-something of a cross between Erykah Badu and Eartha Kitt. A powerhouse rhythm section ensures that the all-important groove remains the focal point of the arrangements, while production techniques borrowed from '90s DJ culture pop up throughout. Lyrically, Gray moves from the lustiness of the unambiguously titled "Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak" to the film noir scenario of "I've Committed Murder," all the while singing with enough verve and soul to ensure that her unique voice insinuates itself into the listener's heart.
Recorded at Paramount Studios, Sunset Sound and A&M Studios, Hollywood California.

| | Laurie Berkner Buzz Buzz CD (2001)
Phobia: Collector's Edition
$13.49 Laurie Berkner's second children's album doesn't tamper much with the formula that made her first effort, Whaddaya Think About That?, an overnight success. Once again it is Berkner's finely tuned understanding of her audience that sets her apart. Her songs are characterized by an uninhibited absurdity that is fresh and unpredictable. One song is centered matter-of-factly on the idea that "Laurie's got a pig on her head [and] she keeps it there all day." Another is about an elusive bunch of pretzels that keep escaping a hungry person. Berkner also has a knack for colorful rhymes that aim to engender an enthusiasm for language in her young fans. Her lyrics are populated with lines ...
| | Dusty Springfield Love Songs CD (2001)
Phobia: Collector's Edition
$10.45 Recorded between April 1967 and November 1971. Includes liner notes by Jim Pierson.
Rhino's Love Songs series usually features unimaginative anthologies of romantic-minded tunes from a star's catalog. Whether through an act of sneaky subversion or not, Dusty Springfield's entry in the series is quite the worthwhile exception. It focuses almost wholly on rarities that will be an appreciated supplement to the library of even the dedicated Springfield collector. All of the tracks date from 1967-71, and only two of them -- the hits "Son-of-a Preacher Man" and "The Look of Love" -- could be considered familiar and easily obtainable. The rest are an assortment of songs that were not released in the U.S. at that time, whether they appeared only on U.K. albums or singles, or on the now hard-to-find The Legend of Dusty Springfield box set. Over half of the 16 tracks were previously unissued in the U.S., and three songs from her early 1970 sessions with Gamble-Huff appear here for the first time anywhere. Most important of all, the music is worthwhile, and pretty much up to the standard of her better material from the late 1960s and early 1970s, ...
| | Soviettes LP CD (2003)
Phobia: Collector's Edition
$10.89 New wave meets no wave on a Twin Cities bus, and the next stop is mid-'90s Kill Rock Stars-style slash and burn girl punk revivalism. They still make bands like this? From the start to its all-too-quick finish, the Soviettes' eponymous debut is a treble-kicking trip to the past in glorious fast-forward. Sturgeon (Maren Mocosko) , Annie Holoien, Susy Sharp, and Y chromosome ringer Danny Henry know it's all been done before -- the overdriven, two-minute songs, spazzy drum fills, and Raincoats-style girl group vocals. But their skinny fists are packed with melodies, their socks are striped, and every bassline is lovingly shellacked by slashing, barely tuned guitars that make everything sound ...
