The true Mayhem.
They continue to evolve. Great musicians at top of their game.
some complain about the sound but it really adds more atmosphere to the album.

Awsome
well this is the first mayhem cd that ive ever brought (after doing a lot of reading about the band's history)and im simply astounded. yes the quality of the tracks might not be the best but the music can create a atmosphere unlike anything that i've ever heard before but this is a good thing. Illuminate Elliminate is one of the best songs i've heard in a long time and the album itself has promted me to go out and buy other mayhem albums. for any black metal fan, this simply is a must have.

Pure old school black metal. The return of Atilla, good stuff.

Suprise!
Well, I am a fan of Mayhem, I have all of their previous releases, and I was most excited when Ordo Ad Chao arrived. I put it in immediately and after three songs I was utterly devastated. The production seemed to be worse than "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" and the music was unlike anything Mayhem has ever done, or perhaps, a complete mix of everything they have written to date. Well, after about 5 songs I realized that due to the production and material on Chimera, I now expected a follow up to that album, but then, when has Mayhem ever had one release sound anything like another? I looked at it all wrong, the production fits the the material extremely well, it is heavy, mournful, and often haunting, after all... (They are one of the most Elite Black Metal bands in the world!) All in all, I couldn't have asked for anything more, or anything more original from this band, they continue to amaze me with their diversity, creativity, and musicianship, it is good to hear Attila back on vocals, and Hellhammer, gifted as he is, shows restraint in his drumming, only displaying god-like speed when necessary, to compliment the song. Everyone in the band covered their bases on this cd and for long-time fans of the band, this one will not disapoint.

what did you expect?
I certainly did expect to hear something else then this! It is dark, nihilistic, different but definitely Mayhem even though I miss Maniac!
I like this album from the start but it needs quite a few spins more before I will 'get' all the details.
The sound is old school. Maybe it would have been too easy to have a "Peter Tagtren" produce this album so Mayhem did it their way and it suits them perfectly. I do not think this is their best album but I am very, very happy with this release. (Much better than that new Dimmu album.)
Fav songs so far: Illuminate Eliminate which is 9min40 long! Chaotic and really dark.
