You Say Party! We Say Die!: Becky Ninkovic, Krista Loewen, Derek Adam, Devon Clifford, Stephen O'Shea. Additional personnel: Kristin Treleaven, Melissa Gregerson, Katherine Prentiss (vocals). On its second full-length outing, 2007's LOSE ALL TIME, the Vancouver, Canada-based ensemble You Say Party! We Say Die! makes up for an unfortunate band name with a sharp set of dance-punk tunes. Highlights of the edgy, rhythm-driven album include "Downtown Mayors Unite, Alley Kids Rule!"--a raucous number that sounds like a fusion of !!! and Yeah Yeah Yeahs; and the jagged yet melodic "Monster." Providing more of the same as their debut album in the best possible sense, Lose All Time cements British Columbia's You Say Party! We Say Die! as one of the most consistently enjoyable acts of the neo-new wave, even despite their terrible name. With their combination of Becky Ninkovic's yowling, bratty lead vocals and Krista Loewen's unapologetically cheesy keyboards, the majority of Lose All Time passes by in a blur of thumping dance-rock tunes highly indebted to the twin towers of the Athens, GA, new wave set, Pylon and the B-52's. However, the haunting piano-and-voice ballad "You're Almost There" provides an effective breather amidst all the nervy dancefloor fillers, and the closing "Quiet World" has a hypnotic pulse akin to the best work of the often underrated Martha & the Muffins. A more consistent and thoughtful release than 2006's Hit the Floor!, which got over in part because of the band's infectious sense of fun and enthusiasm, Lose All Time is a genuinely terrific album showing that You Say Party! We Say Die! may be one of the few bands in the retro-new wave scene with the talent to last beyond their pop cultural moment. ~ Stewart Mason You Say Party We Say Die Lose All Time Songs Lose All Time Review

Lose All Time
$9.79 This is a collection of NOFX tracks from various compilations, 7"s and EPs, plus a previously unreleased song and dub remix. 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records has to be one of the longest, and greatest, album titles of all time. However, for you pedants out there, it's also far from accurate. These songs may not have been up to NOFX album standards, but all, bar one, were considered worthy for release on 7" singles, EPs, or compilations. And that one exception is a new song. All told, this comes close to bringing together much of the group's vinyl-only releases and tough to find numbers from indie compilations. Close, but obviously not all, as Fat Mike chose to deliberately omit songs so as not to wreck the "coolness" value of owning the originals. Of course, all 47 (to be precise) of these songs could have fit onto a single CD, but again, Mike wisely decided that was a ...

The Organ: Ashley Webber (bass guitar); Shelby Stocks (drums); Katie Sketch, Jenny Smyth, Debora Cohen. Personnel: Katie Sketch (vocals); Debora Cohen (guitar); Jenny Smyth (organ); Shelby Stocks (drums). Recording information: 604 Studios; Hearing Protection Required; The Factory; The Warehouse. The Organ's 2002 debut EP Sinking Hearts was more captivating than most of that year's full-length releases: over the course of just 15 minutes, the band crafted chiaroscuro meditations on falling in and out of love that were just as light and jangly as they were dark and brooding. The EP was a promising beginning, and Grab That Gun, the Organ's first album, builds on that promise by delivering more appealingly moody music instead of reinventing the band's sound. It's tempting, initially, to be slightly disappointed that the Organ didn't broaden its sonic territory. But, even though the music remains remarkably focused, Grab That Gun proves that the band has plenty ...

Lose All Time
$19.39 Canadian troubadour Mary Margaret O'Hara returns with her first recording since 1991's "Christmas EP" and her first proper full-length since her worldwide smash, 1988's "Miss America".
APARTMENT HUNTING is a 17-track release featuring the soundtrack from the film "Apartment Hunting" that features Canadian singer Mary Margaret O'Hara and includes "Was You" and "Be A Man." After releasing Miss America, an acclaimed debut album that still routinely tops critics' lists of all-time best albums, it's probably understandable that Mary Margaret O'Hara pulled a disappearing act: Apart from one EP and guest appearances on other artists' albums, there was nothing even remotely resembling a follow-up album for nearly a decade and a half. With the release of this album, she's managed to find a way to avoid any accusations ...

Lose All Time
$26.49 Nearly a decade on from the height of the Corrs' success, lead vocalist Andrea finally releases her debut solo album, albeit perhaps too late for anyone to really take notice -- which is a shame, as the majority of Ten Feet High eschews the over-produced MOR that has dogged her group's recent output, and instead offers a collection of eclectic pop songs that are both lyrically and musically inventive. Opener "Hello Boys" sets the precedent as Andrea seductively purrs her way through a Goldfrapp-esque electro-pop stomper, complete with dirty bassline and electric guitar solo. It's a statement of intent you couldn't possibly have predicted, but ...
