| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
From Dirt CD music
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford staring wistfully (with a goatee and shades) into a soft, snowy pine forest -- screams Spinal Tap. That said, the Judas Priest frontman approaches yuletide standards like "We Three Kings" and ...

| | Judas Priest Hell Bent For Leather CD (1979)
From Dirt album
$6.25 The British version of this release is titled KILLING MACHINE.
Principally recorded at Utopia, Basing Street and CBS Studios, London, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Judas Priest's 1979 release, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (titled KILLING MACHINE in Europe), continued the band's late '70s winning streak, which included such metal classics as SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, SIN AFTER SIN, and STAINED CLASS. Such deliciously heavy tracks as "Delivering the Goods," the title track, the U.K. hit single "Take On the World," and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)," showed that nobody could touch singer Rob Halford and company when it came to power metal. Landing a spot as the opening act on Kiss' U.S. tour the same year, Priest were gearing up for a major worldwide breakthrough--eventually becoming one of the '80s top heavy metal acts.
In 1979, Judas Priest was growing more and more influential. And as the 1980s progressed, it would become crystal clear that the British headbangers -- who influenced everyone from Iron Maiden to Metallica to King Diamond -- had every bit as great an impact as fellow British headbangers Black Sabbath. One of the Priest's strongest albums, Hell Bent for Leather cannot be described ...
| | Bon Jovi Lost Highway CD (2007)
From Dirt CD music
$10.45 Although the initial reports that LOST HIGHWAY was to be Bon Jovi's "country album" turned out to be somewhat overstated, it does sit comfortably at the meeting ground between commercial rock and commercial country that Garth Brooks started exploring in the early 1990s, and that folks like Big and Rich or Toby Keith mine successfully today.
In fact, Big and Rich continued their bid to appear on every album recorded in Nashville in 2007 by helping out on "We Got It Going On," while the ballad "Stranger" ...

| | Anthony Nestor Night Of The Poet CD (2002)
From Dirt music CDs
$12.69 Anthony Nestor has been a guitarist, composer, poet and philosopher for twenty years. His debut CD, Night of the Poet, is a record about seeking; about coming to terms with love, language, loss, and the longing to be free; both in the materialistic sense, and, more importantly, in the spiritual sense. As a guitarist Anthony has created a unique sound and style that is rhythmically complex, harmonically rich and melodically fluid; and while his playing impresses guitar aficionados and lay people alike, his music emphasizes a strong marriage between complex guitar ...

| | DR Lektroluv Live Recorded At Rock Werchten CD (2007)
From Dirt album
$14.09 Live Recorded at Rock Werchter is a mix that literally lives up to its name, as Belgian DJ Dr. Lektroluv was captured at a show-closing performance at said rock festival. If Dr. Lektroluv is a crowd-pleaser first and foremost, he does so in a way that actually honors the songs instead of giving in to bad approximations of Fatboy Slim's style, as has been the case in some corners in recent years. As a collection of 2007-era tracks plus a variety of older favorites it's a nice overview -- hearing figures like Feist and, perhaps ironically, the Klaxons turned into full-on dancefloor fodder instead of apologetic engagements with same is always enjoyable, and the respective remixes by Boys Noize and Soulwax, while neither are truly remarkable, are still good listens. Meanwhile, hearing LFO's "Freak" dropped into the middle of the set is a treat and a half, while the concluding remix of Moby's "Go" by Trentemoller makes for a spectacular ending, as the crowd vocally indicates. Other selections include "Kiss My Trance" by the Subs and Polysics' "Coelakanth Is Android [MSTRKRFT Remix]." ~ Ned Raggett
Belgian DJ Dr. Lektroluv is best known for his highly-acclaimed Lektroluv series electro compilations. This is his second release recorded live in an open-air party setting, following 2006's Live Recorded At Extrema Outdoor 2006. This time, Dr. Lektroluv's scorching set was recorded during Rock Werchter, a four-day Belgian festival that has been in existence since 1974 and recently received the Arthur Award for best festival in the world for the third time during the International Live Music Conference. This year performers included the Beastie Boys, The Chemical Brothers, Björk, Faithless, Air, LCD Soundsystem, !!! and Klaxons. Dr. Lektroluv was the only DJ on ...
