| | Lund, Martin & The El Super Blancos No Rhyme Or Reason CD Lund, Martin & The El Super Blancos Discography of CDs
Martin Lund, one of the most diverse musicians in the universe lives and breathes music in many different colors and cultures. He has played with some of the great blues artists of our time and worked in the studios of LA as a composer, arranger and musician with artists like Mel Torme to Isacc Hayes. His eclectic background has allowed him to move freely through any style of music from classical to rock and from jazz to broadway. He is equally adept at clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano. This particular album was done on a Saturday afternoon by myself and some of the most gifted musicians that I know and perhaps others know in LA. It is live and it is eclectic which means don't just listen to one track as it may not be for you but I'll bet that something will speak to your fancy. It was such a joy to play live with Alex Acuna ( Weather Report/Birdland) Mike Miller (Mothers of Invention), Tim Landers, Mitch Forman, Larry Cohn, Art Rodriguez and wild man Ray Pizzi (jazz bassoonist/saxist) in a spontaneous setting. As the musician's union bumper sticker says, "live music is best." $7.99 | | Ray Davies Kinks Choral Collection CD (2009)
No Rhyme Or Reason
$14.38 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, and letting the rhythms swing instead ...

| | 'Michael Fairchild Tales From The Yard CD (2006)
No Rhyme Or Reason
$17.75 An accomplished singer/songwriter, Michael Fairchild has received wide success in various local markets. His music is often considered pop-gone-wrong, a label he heartily embraces for its peripheral designation; It allows me to retain a unique musical identity without making me feel like I have to orient myself or my music in a predetermined direction.Drawing from a mix of music, literary and pop culture influences, Michael writes songs that personally explore universal demons. His lyrics are catchy and thoughtful with melodically simple constructions. These techniques enable audiences to read their own experiences and emotions into the songs. This reaction compels Michael to continue writing, producing and playing to packed audiences in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. "Since I rarely think of the audience during my writing process, as it is a more solitary act, I am floored when fans come up to me after the show and say 'this is exactly how they feel'; it makes me feel like there is something bigger out there and that I am somehow more connected to my fellow humans."Self taught at the age of 15, Michael Fairchild began his musical career by practicing to the likes of Pink Floyd, Metallica, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. His flair for original songwriting began to flourish in his late teen years and culminated in his first solo project released in 2001. Postcards from Suburbia is a series of witty vignettes peppered with literary, historical and musical allusions. Like many of his influences, Michaels songwriting demands elegant exposition. Tales from the Yard, independently released in 2004, builds on Michaels strong foundation in poetics and provocative musical juxtapositions but also demonstrates his maturing musical style and deeply sentient verse. Michael is currently working on a new album with a release date expected in 2006.When not working on his solo career he has been involved with a number of collaborative projects with bands such as The Fine Time Communion, Feeling Nero and III. Each project has enabled Michael to explore a variety of musical styles, allowing for the breadth we hear on Tales from the Yard. No matter where Michael plays ...
| | Mor Duran CD (2006) (Import)
No Rhyme Or Reason
$21.39 MoR (Margret Eir / vocals and Robert Thorhallsson / bass) has been creating quite a wave in Iceland. The duo has been touring the country, selling out concert halls, receiving rave reviews. Duran, a cool collection of (you guessed it) Duran tunes has taken Margret (already one of Iceland’s most popular vocalists) and Robert (who has recorded over 20 albums) to a new level as well as introducing them to the U.S. and Canadian radio markets in the fall of 2006 by quickly charting on NPR stations like WVIA in Pennsylvania, , and CFBU in Ontario, frequently played on New York area stations like WFMU, WVOF and WESU , added to numerous playlists such as KTUH in Hawaii and KCBX in California and making WVIA radio host and producer George Graham's best of 2006 CD list. Translating. Interpreting. Incarnating. Transforming a cultural collage-- without sentiment or inhibition-- into translucent clarity. Duran is an homage that remains personal. These masters of infusion have been connecting melodic pieces from other times and places to animate standard or forgotten songs like musical puppeteers. A uniquely modern, evolving symposium. A conversation as elemental and organic as the resonance created by the interactive friction of two twigs. The cultural mercury is re-lit. Margret inhabits the lyrical imagery like an actor, while Robert’s orchestral waves form an architectural cushion that both interacts and supports as the Icelandic songstress roams within. The immediacy, and chamber like sparseness that illuminates what was evidently pretty good material to begin with (thanks Margret) reminds us of the spirit/ aura in the record on the radio. The ghost in the pop song machine that can’t be faked or simulated. Contemporary and classic. When the narrative moves into the oo’s and ah’s--there is no lapse into loungey scat singing-- instead our ears are delighted by the coolness ...
