Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Spanish Subtitles; Blue Ray HD-DVD Are humans meant to mate for life? What drives someone in a perfectly good relationship to cheat and risk losing the one that they love and that loves them? Is it possible to love more than one person at the same time? How well does anyone really know the one that they love? Directed by Mike Nichols (THE GRADUATE, BIRDCAGE, WORKING GIRL), CLOSER questions the nature of relationships and fidelity as it follows the tangled web created by Dan (Jude Law), Alice (Natalie Portman), Anna (Julia Roberts), and Larry (Clive Owen). Dan, a British writer of obituaries, and Alice, a young American stripper, meet in the film's opening scene when a London cab runs her down. Cut to a year later: Dan and Alice are now a couple, but he is suddenly smitten with Anna, a beautiful American photographer. In an ironic twist of fate, Anna meets Larry, a British doctor, and they are soon a couple, despite Dan's continuing obsession. But the entanglements don't end there, and ultimately, someone is sure to get hurt. The four players do justice to a script that is humorous, raw and disarmingly honest about adult relationships. THEATRICAL RELEASE: DECEMBER 3, 2004 (LIMITED)
Closer Reviews: "[The performances] are strong and display a readiness to engage in the ugliness of the parts. Julia Roberts is refreshingly understated."
-- Sam Davies, Sight and Sound 3 stars out of 5 -- "A faithful screen adaptation of Patrick Marber's play....It's witty and well performed..."-- Richard Houldsworth, Ultimate DVD "The verbal intercourse that dominates that scene and every other in the film is vigorous, compulsive, sometimes painful and occasionally funny."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "All the actors do fine work, but Owen's quixotic and brooding quality is particularly effective here."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "[T]he haunting, hypnotic CLOSER vibrates with eroticism, bruising laughs and dynamite performances from four attractive actors doing decidedly unattractive things."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "The place, the costumes, the staging of sexual provocation and betrayal are refined studies in luxurious understatement."
-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "[Portman is] the film's most enigmatic character..."
-- Chris Norris, Film Comment "[T]his is an engrossing, anti-romantic movie about that bloody fist of an organ, the human heart."
-- David Stubbs, Uncut "They are all so very articulate, which is refreshing..."-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times Closer | List Price | $28.95 (You save $9.60) | | Studio | Sony Pictures Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2004 | | All Time Sales Rank | 74878 | | CD Universe Part number | 7402515 | | Catalog number | 19436 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 22, 2007 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | sequences of graphic sexual dialogue, nudity/sexuality, and language | | Running Time | 104 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Color; Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled |

Closer Movie Review Realisim In A Beautiful City! This movie is somewhat of a rare treat from hollywood these days: dialogue driven - No special effects, No automatic gunfire, No stupid car chase, and NO dangling from a ledge or fire escape! The London setting is fabulous for the outdoor shots. I'm far from a Julia Roberts fan but this is not a "look how cute Julia's smile is movie! Ththe four characters in this movie do a wonderful job delivering realistic dialogue in a very disfunctional 4-way relationship. The top notch acting and writing is what carries this movie and if you want something else (like an idiotic action movie) you don't want a Mike Nichols film anyway (because he doesn't turn out that kind of garbage). This is one of his finest efforts (right up there with Heartburn!). And, like Heartburn, it doesn't have the "Happy-Sappy-Crappy" typical Hollywood ending. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Great Emotional Tweeker This is a film about relationships, love, mistakes and pain, very much a chick flick or a film for men who actually like emotionally provacative movies. And let us not forget that Jude Law and Natalie Portman are both just so hot their eatable! Submitted by SLarson (Moses Lake, Washington) Was This Review Helpful? CLOSER TO PERFECTION One of the better movies I've seen in a LONG time.
Spike had it right in his review.
All the actors were great, their perfomance, the scenery.
Not like most movies today, where you know what the cast has to do, you know where they have to do it, and you know in how much time there gonna get it done.
Great story, Portman is beautiful.
Jude Law and Julia Roberts were great.
And Clive Owen loved him in Sin City, played a great bastard in this one. Submitted by heroesblend (New York, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Natalie Portman, YES....Closer, NO! What an overhyped piece of junk! Talk about a movie going nowhere. I tried as hard as I could to stay interested in this movie, but lost it about 45-50 in. Natalie Portman is beautiful and good at whatever she does, and Clive Owen was great (I thought Julia Roberts was okay and I don't see what all the hype is with Jude Law...very basic, unconvincing acting), but the movie drove around in circles until it ran out of gas. Natalie Portman Feast If you are a Natalie Portman fan, buy it. Other than that, is has few redeeming qualities. Submitted by xqusit (Denver, CO. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$30.49 Equal parts psychological drama and heist movie, this film from screenwriter Scott Frank is a smart first feature with a strong cast. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Chris Pratt, a young man whose life changes after a car accident. Though Chris survived, he's not the cocky high school athlete everyone remembers. Instead, a head injury leaves him with memory loss and the need to write everything down in a notebook. After leaving his late-night job as a bank janitor for the evening, Chris meets Gary (Matthew Goode) and Luvlee (Isla Fisher, WEDDING CRASHERS) at a neighborhood bar. Though they initially seem genuine, Gary reveals his intentions to rob the bank where Chris works. Eager for friendship and a return to the person he used to be, Chris is quickly in over his head.
After starring in THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN, Gordon-Levitt ...
