| | Bo Diddley Definitive Collection CD Bo Diddley Discography of CDs
This 20-track overview of the great Bo Diddley is essentially a repackaging of the CHESS 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION. Interested fans can really take their pick, as the identical tracklists present the legendary Ellas McDaniels in all his primordial rock-&-roll glory. It's all here and it's everywhere: that divine Bo Diddley beat, the absurd asides to his maraca sideman Jerome Green, and of course the self-mythologizing. With tracks as timeless and raw as "Bo Diddley," "Who Do You Love," and "I'm A Man," it's no wonder Diddley's nickname is "The Originator." Of course, that soubriquet is a bit misleading: whatever it was that Ellas originated, no one who followed in his wake has been able to duplicate it. Better yet, call him "The One And the Only." 1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water ...
| | Band CD (1969) Gold; Remastered

$25.89 Initially renowned as Bob Dylan's backing group, the Band emerged from the singer's shadow to proclaim a distinctive talent. Drawing upon a musical canon embracing soul, country, folk and rock `n' roll, the quintet created a unique sound that was quintessentially American. Its rustic qualities were enhanced by principle songwriter Robbie Robertson who created vistas suggestive of a pre-industrial age, and as such, captured the restlessness of the late 60s without the need for explicit manifestos. Expressive singing, sublime melodies and telepathic musicianship instils The Band with quality, but its adult themes and perspectives ensure an absolute timelessness. An ...

| | Keith Washington Make Time For Love CD (1991)
Definitive Collection CD music
$7.89 Although it seems like Keith Washington was an overnight success, the truth is that he was busy many years prior trying to find his way to the music charts as an artist. Finally, that ambition has come to fruition and the result is resplendent. The Detroit native's first single was the captivating "Kissing You." The soft, mellow intro bows to a dynamic pre-hook string arrangement before returning to an affectionate chorus. The ballad stayed on the Billboard R&B charts for 20 weeks, peaking at number one. The second single was "Are You Still in Love with Me." The lyric expresses much concern and Washington conveys that message in his urgent cry; the single topped off at number 15 on the Billboard R&B charts after 14 weeks. The third release was the more romantic title track "Make Time for Love." Unlike the prior two singles, "Make Time for Love" settles into a gentle rhythm. Washington, however, exerts his energy as the song gradually builds momentum. It climaxed at 22 after 15 weeks on the charts. "When You Love Somebody" sizzles with a feverish rhythm accented by a spirited bridge and Washington's convincing delivery. This is a superb song. It only managed to crack the Top 30 at 26 after a mere 11 weeks. The production on this album ...
