The Scott Henderson Collection is a decent Introduction to the fusion guitarist's work throughout the '90s. Among the 11 tracks are four recorded with bassist Gary Willis as Tribal Tech: "Space Camel," "Song Holy Hell," "Clinic Troll" and "Thick." Henderson's combination of rock, funk and blues are filtered through his conservatory jazz background, which provides an interesting combination of technical musicianship with gritty structures. ~ Al Campbell

$13.49 Who said there's no such thing as good fusion? Scott Henderson, Steve Smith and Victor Wooten have teamed up to prove the skeptics wrong with VITAL TECH TONES. There's a lot of electricity generated when these three giants get together. Yes, there are chops galore, so the weak-hearted among you might want to stay on the sidelines. For those brave enough, however, there await blazing grooves, blistering guitar and virtuoso solos that must be heard to be believed.
From the heavy opening groove of "Crash Course" it is evident this project was not meant for the Adult Contemporary Happy Jazz crowd. From buzz saw-like power chords to soaring lead runs, Henderson's guitar work is stunning. Smith's ...
| | Scott Henderson VTT2 CD (2000)
Collection CD music
$13.45 If you heard the first disc by this trio, you know that Scott Henderson, Steve Smith, and Victor Wooten are not shy about unloading everything in their arsenal in the name of fusion. VTT2 showcases these giants of the electric-jazz world on a new set of high-energy, no-holds-barred works. If you like blazing guitar, popping bass, and thunderous drums, then these boys are sure to give you your fill-and then some.
Though generally similar in style to the first album, the music on VTT2 goes even deeper. Henderson, Smith, and Wooten are more familiar with each other's abilities, and they're able to push their collective envelope even further. It's ...

| | Tribal Tech Thick CD (1999)
Collection songs
$14.29 Scott Henderson is a benchmark in the jazz fusion guitar world. He can just as easily lay down a mean blues lick or rock you hard, burning the frets like a wild man. Standing shoulder to shoulder, you have the creative genius and frenetic bounce of Gary Willis on bass with Scott Kinsey's inventive keyboard magic. Confidently, Kirk Covington pulls a polyrhythmic mixer out and drums away any doubts you may have about the power and grace of Tribal Tech. This band is never afraid to stretch, to totter ...
| | Best Of Great White CD (2005)
Collection album
$6.45 Heavy metal of the '80s era can usually be categorized two ways -- glam and thrash. But there was another genre that burned brightly at the tale end of decade, before fading -- Led Zeppelin "disciples" (heck, Gary Moore even wrote a song about the genre, "Led Clones"). Kingdom Come and Whitesnake are usually at the top of this list, but certainly not far behind was Los Angeles' Great White, whose singer, Jack Russell, had Robert Plant's vocal style down pat. Ten career highlights are showcased on the budget-priced Best Of collection, which for the average metalhead should be all the Great White they will require in their collection. Most of the group's best tracks are included, such as their breakthrough ...
| | B B King Blues On The Bayou CD (1998)
Collection CD music
$12.09 BLUES ON THE BAYOU won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
Having just turned 73, B.B. King released BLUES ON THE BAYOU as a kind of retrospective look at 50 years of playing the blues. King produced BAYOU himself and recorded it at a remote studio in the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana with the band he'd been playing with for the past 10 years. A relaxed and well-oiled feeling is felt throughout this group of songs, some of which were newly written while others are older numbers that were dusted off and re-recorded specifically for these sessions. "Blues Boys Tune" and "Blues We Like" are solidly rendered King instrumentals and "I'll Survive" is a '50s nugget softly gilded by strings and horn charts punctuated by James Sells Toney's fluid piano playing.
King's economical use of notes means that "Mean Ole World" becomes more than just ...

Collection album
$14.29 The 12 tracks that make up One, Matthew Shipp's first solo piano outing since 2002's Songs on the Splasc(h) label, amount to a new kind of recital for the pianist. Two of his major influences on the instrument, Cecil Taylor and Mal Waldron, make their traces heard in terms of Shipp's architecture, but never do they become dominant. There is a kind of economy of scale that goes into these pieces that's refreshing for any solo piano outing. For starters, there are the elegant middle- and lower-middle-register chord voicings that make up the lion's share ...
