Charles Aznavour: Palais des Congres 1987 video
$9.15 Also available as part of the Delta 2-CD set THE BEST OF EDITH PIAF.
A very strong best-of collection, VOICE OF THE SPARROW's title is a reference to Edith Piaf's widely used moniker "the Little Sparrow." And it's an apt moniker at that: Piaf was petite, and--in a life filled with tragedy--seemingly vulnerable, yet her song was strong and assured, transcending nations and time. With her heavy vibrato, pure tone, and emotionally intense delivery, Piaf would influence nearly every French chansonnier who followed in her wake
The lack of liner notes is this compilation's only drawback: a figure of Piaf's stature deserves the proper historical and artistic context. Yet it's hard to argue with the selection of songs here, which includes classics like "La Vie, L'Amour," "Milord," and "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rein." Piaf's passionate ...

| | Celine Dion One Heart CD (2003)
Charles Aznavour: Palais des Congres 1987 review
$7.15 This Asian release contains three bonus tracks: "Forget Me Not," "I Know What Love Is," and "Je T'aime Encore."
The perennial Canadian chanteuse returns to the limelight with this snappy collection of contemporary pop in the vein of Cher's renaissance material, including the car-commercial-associated "I Drove All Night," and "Je T'Aime Encore," which is not, as you might assume, a remake of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin's late-'60s sheet-ripping heavy-breather, but a sensitive acoustic exploration of lost love. Dion ventures into Britney territory with "Love Is All We Need," which is somewhat under the influence of Prince's "When Doves Cry," and she seems quite at home with the anthemic pure pop of the title track. However, it's the ballads, such as the sensitive, percolating "Stand By Your Side," and the climactic "Sorry For Love" that showcase Celine's voice to its best advantage, just as they always have. ONE HEART shows Celine Dion in transition from TITANIC ballad-belter to Las Vegas diva, and it's an assured and confident effort.
Includes the 3 bonus tracks "Forget Me Not", "I Know What Love Is" and "Je T'aime Encore"
Includes liner notes by Celine Dion.
Personnel: Celine Dion (background vocals); Esbjörn Öhrwall (guitar, acoustic guitar); Russ Desalvo (guitar, piano, keyboards); Peer Astrom (guitar, keyboards, drums, background vocals); Dorian Cheah, Guy Roche (guitar, synthesizer, drum programming); John Shanks (guitar, background vocals); Chieli Minucci, Gildas Arzel, Staffan Astner, ...

Charles Aznavour: Palais des Congres 1987 DVD
$10.39 EMI's U.K. collection of Edith Piaf, titled Éternelle, is quite a nice set that includes many of Piaf's numerous hits, such as "La Vie en Rose" and "La Goualante du Pauvre Jean." Overall, Éternelle is comparable to the U.S. mainstay on Capitol Records, The Voice of the Sparrow: The Very Best of Edith Piaf, but with only seven of the 18 songs ...
