| | Within Temptation Heart Of Everything CD - Import Within Temptation Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
2007 Japanese edition of the fourth studio album by the Dutch symphonic metal band that includes a bonus 36 page booklet in a digipak. Within Temptation once again prove themselves as peerless purveyors of quality Gotihic-tinged rock, produced again by Daniel Gibson and mixed by Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein). While the epic grandeur of the band's sound remains, it now coexists with a more contemporary "organic" feel. Nowhere is this highlighted more than on the single "What Have You Done" (featuring Life Of Agony vocalist Keith Caputo), which manages to be both passionate and punchy. Elsewhere "Frozen" is a classic, streamlined ballad and "The Howling" swirling tour-de-force. This edition includes both the original LP version of "What Have You Done" and well as the duet recording with Keith Caputo! Also includes 2 live recordings of "Deceiver Of Fools" and "See Who I Am". Heart Of Everything album
$7.59 It's too bad that Nevermind had to make this sort of rock unfashionable in the early '90s. Anchored by the world-class chops of guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Billy Sheehan, Mr. Big's debut album is an adrenaline-fueled dose of pure rock & roll attitude. Don't let the big hair and leather pants fool you; much like Bon Jovi, Mr. Big is definitely not in the same category as '80s pop-metal bands such as Poison. One difference is the fact that Mr. Big is composed of monstrously talented musicians. Witness, for example, the ascending guitar/bass figure in the beginning of "Addicted to that Rush" or the unison hits and strong groove to "Wind Me Up" or "Merciless." Eric Martin's sophomoric lyrics are admittedly the weakest link here ("Zip the lipstick on/Like BBQ sauce"), which often distract from his fine gritty voice, which is somewhere in between Steven Tyler and Steve Perry. The songwriting is also ...
| | Evanescence Fallen CD (2003)
Heart Of Everything CD music
$8.99 Evanescence won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. FALLEN was nominated for Album Of The Year and for Best Rock Album. "Bring Me To Life" won for Best Hard Rock Performance. The song was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
Picture Tori Amos fronting Nickelback and you'll get an idea of the sound behind Evanescence, an Arkansas quartet whose introduction to the world came via the DAREDEVIL soundtrack. With its debut FALLEN, Evanescence further pushes the envelope on the aforementioned description, with frontwoman Amy Lee pouring her light-yet-strong vocals into the aggro-rock workout "Bring Me to Life" and industrial trip-hop of "My Last Breath." Although guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt leave no riff unplayed on hard-hitting cuts like "Going Under" and "Taking Over Me," Lee brings a nice balance to the table with her gorgeous piano runs, which come to the fore on the very Amos-like "Hello." The perfect balance of hard and soft is met on "Haunted" with its ambient nuance stoked by clattering ...

| | Tarantula Hawk CD (2002)
Heart Of Everything music CDs
$12.95 This is Tarantula Hawk's second (and second self-titled) album, following their 2001 debut on Life Is Abuse. Their label this time out, Neurot Records, is a fitting match for the band given the presence of other brooding epic-rock heavyweights such as Isis and flagship band Neurosis on the label, although this is the most distinctly "prog" album on Neurot up to this point. Loosely comparable to Larks' Tongues in Aspic/Red-era King Crimson, this is sinister, alternately heavy and spaced-out prog rock with occasional punk and metal overtones. The defining instruments are the orchestral-sounding analog keyboards and ...
| | Hayley Westenra Pure CDs (2004) (Import) Import; United Kingdom
Heart Of Everything songs
$14.45 British import version includes a bonus ECD featuring seven audio tracks and the stunning video for "Pokarekare Ana."
On her debut, Hayley Westenra, a 16-year-old singing sensation from New Zealand, endures the inevitable comparisons to Charlotte Church, but it's the impression she's made that's placed her in such lofty company. And not many fledgling artists can boast of having the legendary George Martin contribute songs and arrangements to their album. PURE might be the best description of her singing--crystal clear and devoid of mannerisms. It's not simply the beauty of her voice that impresses, however, but how effectively she uses it.
The precocious soprano demonstrates the poise, versatility, and musical instincts of a seasoned pro. Westenra moves gracefully through a program made up primarily of Euro-pop ballads but also includes arrangements of well-known classical melodies, as well as a pair of Maori songs. Highlights include affecting renditions of "In Trutina" from Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' and the traditional spiritual "Amazing Grace." And, in what might be an effort to defy easy categorization, she changes direction on the closing ...
| | Motley Crue Shout At The Devil CD (1983) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Heart Of Everything album
$34.99 Principally recorded at Cherokee Studios, Hollywood, California. Includes interviews conducted by Alan K. Stout.
Whereas Motley Crue's 1981 debut TOO FAST FOR LOVE was glam rock-based (both musically and visually), 1983's now-classic sophomore effort, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, had more in common with heavy metal. The album served as The Crue's commercial breakthrough, going double-platinum shortly after it's release (and eventually reaching quadruple-platinum status) and spawning several popular MTV videos. Motley Crue toured behind SHOUT as an opener for Ozzy Osbourne, and the success of the album also helped open the floodgates for the L.A. metal scene.
SHOUT AT THE DEVIL is undoubtedly Motley Crue's all-time best. The set includes anthems galore (the title track, "Looks That Kill," and the melodic "Too Young to Fall in Love"), lesser-known tales of sex, violence, and sin ("Bastard," "Red Hot," "Knock 'Em Dead Kid," "Ten Seconds to Love," "Danger"), and a vicious cover of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter." All the tracks are winners. SHOUT's satanic cover imagery and graphic lyrics drew fire from religious organizations, as did the band's rock mag-fueled hedonistic reputation. Nonetheless, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL remains one of the finest metal albums ...
