Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Director's Comments; Sensor Matic Oscar winning performance by John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn, the one-eyed, eye-patched Deputy Marshal who helps a stubborn, yet resourceful, teenage girl find the murderer of her father. A pure western in which a lawmen tracks a criminal, TRUE GRIT, based on Charles Portis' novel, reunited John Wayne with director Henry Hathaway (THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER). Wayne is crotchety U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, who would rather stay home than chase criminals. He heeds the call, though, when fourteen year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) calls on him to avenge her father's death at the hands of a man who has escaped into Indian territory. Glen Campbell is a Texas ranger who accompanies them for his own reasons. Wayne reprised the role six years later in ROOSTER COGBURN. Shot in Technicolor on location in California and Colorado.
Additional credits: Jack Wilson (makeup supervisor); John Burton (set decorator); Roy Meadows & Elden Rubert (sound recordists).
Additional cast: John Pickard (Frank Ross) and Ken Renard (Yarnell Poindexter). True Grit Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Great Actor-Great Character I wanted to introduce my children to an actor who I considered an icon, so that they could enjoy not only the man but the character. Although they were hesitant at first; they now are John Wayne fans. In fact they told their mother that Dad has us hooked on John Wayne movies now. We've had the privlidge of watching the "Cowboys" "Roster Cogburn and the Lady" and now "True Grit"
Thanks for the old memories and the new ones created with my girls.
Thanks,

Oscar WInner Though I have seen most of John Waynes movie, I find this one truly gratifying to John Wayne. I feel that he should have been given an Oscar for his depiction of Spig Wade in "Wings Of Eagles" also. Submitted by a reviewer (Barrackville, WV USA) Was This Review Helpful? $7.05 John Wayne, in his last film appearance, stars as famed gunfighter J.J. Brooks. After learning from Dr. Hostetler (James Stewart) that he's dying of stomach cancer and has no more than two months to live, he moves into a boarding house in Carson City run by Bond Rogers (Lauren Bacall) and her son, Gillom (Ron Howard), to die quietly. But when word gets around that the old gunslinger is in town, curiosity seekers come out of the woodwork to get a look, and the ridiculous local marshal (Henry Morgan) contemplates a showdown with the legend. Annoyed by the attention and realizing that if he waits long enough, he'll die in great pain, Brooks decides to seek out his enemies and go down with guns blazing. Yet he works to persuade the hero-worshiping Gillom to foreswear the life of violence he's led. Director Don Siegel fashions a poignant, gracious farewell to the great star, who, like his character, was dying of cancer as the film was being shot. A stellar cast, which includes Western stalwarts such as Richard Boone, Hugh O'Brian, John Carradine, and Johnny Crawford, adds much to the film's resonance. As much a meditation on the burden of celebrity as an elegy for the Old West, it's ...

True Grit movie DVD
$9.79 Catherine Zeta Jones captivated audiences and shot to stardom via her role as Elena in the 1998 take on the Zorro legend, MASK OF ZORRO. This sequel, set in 1850, finds her married to Alejandro, aka Zorro (Antonio Banderas, also returning to reprise his character from MASK OF ZORRO), and demanding he stop all the derring-do and spend time with their smart-as-a-whip 10-year-old son, Joaquin (Adrian Alonso). The boy has some serious acrobatic skills, but is unaware of his father's secret identity. He can only look askance as his parents separate and Dad starts spending too much time with his hard-drinking horse, while Mom lets herself be wooed by the odious Count Armand (Rufus Sewell). It's up to little Zorro Joaquin to get to the bottom of things and get his folk-hero parents back into action.
Jones is a stunning sight in her elaborate lace-and-linen ensembles, and there's some complex DA VINCI CODE-style secret society skullduggery, but otherwise this sequel has more in common with classic old Walt Disney comedies like THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG or Robert Rodiguez's SPY KIDS than with the 1998 movie. The swordfighting and death-defying action sequences are all totally bloodless, and director Martin Campbell--who also helmed the '98 film--keeps the dialogue very contemporary and child-friendly throughout.
Despite trying to keep his swashbuckling to a minumum, ...
