Weather Report - Live At Montreux 1976 Movie Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) You've Got To See This! After 25 years of enjoying the audio catalog of this band, watching these guys in action on this DVD has greatly deepened my appreciation and respect for this great ensemble. Although all of these great musicians possess virtuosic technique and strong personalities, they never sacrifice the musical integrity of the band with gratuitous displays of flash. It's all about the music and their collective commitment towards this aim is inspiring to say the least. Just witness the dead serious demeanor of Mr. Zawinul and Mr. Shorter as they navigate their way through much of the material from the Black Market release. This is offset by the good natured camaraderie among percussionists Manolo Badrena and Alex Acuna behind the traps. Holding it all together is a 23 year old bass player named Jaco Pastorius. He is without a doubt the heartbeat driving this great sounding quintet. By now you should get the picture. Now get this DVD! Submitted by ittonihf (Syracuse, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Rare Live '70s Weather Rpt Video, But ... This isn't my favorite WR lineup, and songs from their BEST LPs, Mysterious Traveller & Tale Spinnin,' were sorely lacking in this band's set lists, but it IS worth getting for hardcore WR devotees. One BIG word of warning, however ... This video comes off as if it was shot by amateurs overly enamored with the then-new handheld Sony vidcams. So, you get jerky moving close-in shots all around the band on the tiny Montreaux stage coupled with maddening Russ Meyer-like ping pong, jump cut editing, too often having nothing to do with who's soloing. By the time it was over, my head was reeling & I felt like I'd been staring at a party strobe light for 2 hours. Incredibly, it didn't occur to anyone to put ONE wide fixed camera in front of dead center stage, and THEN edit in occasional other shot angles or closeup views to THAT main base point footage. So, four stars for the band/music, [dock] one star for the hippie-dippie Swiss video crew. Submitted by Nate (Boston, MA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

The first half of the film transports viewers to 1939 Poland, and brings it to life clearly and believably. Szpilman is a tall, handsome, winsome man who is revered for his piano performances on public radio.
