While it may not be as stellar as their future releases would be, Morphine's debut album, 1992's Good, did a splendid job of introducing the Boston trio's highly original sound. While it was the alternative crowd who immediately latched onto Morphine, their music was geared more toward the jazz scene -- a wailing saxophone, lead bass (played with a slide), and lyrics influenced by '50s beat poetry were all-important ingredients. The improvisational, (mostly) instrumental rock group formed by Roxy Music's guitarist Phil Manzanera & Brian Eno captured live in concert on September 3rd, 1976 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. 12 tracks, including amazing covers of The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows' & The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me', plus two tracks previously unissued on other editions of this album, 'Fat Lady Of Limbourg' and 'Golden Hours'.
801: Lloyd Watson (vocals, slide guitar); Brian Eno (vocals, guitar, synthesizer); Bill MacCormick (vocals, bass); Phil Manzanera (guitar); Francis Monkman (Fender Rhodes, clavinet); Simon Phillips (drums, sequencing).
Guitarist Phil Manzanera's jazz-rock side project 801 features Brian Eno, Francis Monkman, and Simon Phillips, among others. In 1976, they recorded the ten-song 801 LIVE, highlighted by "Rongwrong" and "Miss Shapiro."
Digitial remastering includes two bonus tracks.
