Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re As the result of a bet between two wealthy commodities traders, the lifestyles of a street hustler (Eddie Murphy) and a blue-nosed employee (Dan Akroyd) of the brokerage are reversed. The innocent victims of the bet scramble to make it in their new foreign environments, with hysterical results. Once they discover the switch played on them, they set out to exact their comic revenge on the execs, played by the grand old actors Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche.. In this screwball comedy of manners, millionaire commodity brokers Randolph and Mortimer Duke (Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy) wager a bet that pits environment vs. biology and turns the lives of their two unsuspecting victims upside down. Eddie Murphy costars as Billy Ray Valentine, a streetwise hustler who gets dragged off the street and into the proper life of top Duke Bros. broker Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd), who in turn gets tossed out of his posh townhouse and onto the mean city streets. The comic team of Murphy and Aykroyd is deliriously funny as they both struggle to comprehend their new lives. Billy Ray is forced to learn proper etiquette, manners, and business sense while uptight Louis scrambles to make it on the streets, befriending a prostitute (Jamie Lee Curtis) who takes him in and saves him from starvation--or worse. When the two innocent victims realize the scheming brothers' plot, they unite and devise a fabulous revenge to prove that their lives can't be controlled by the power-grubbing Duke brothers. The film features outstanding work by Denholm Elliott as the butler and Curtis as the prostitute with a heart of gold. Curtis especially shines in the scene in which she removes all of her hustler accoutrements to reveal her true looks. Director's (Landis's) trademark, SYNW, is a direct reference to "See You Next Wednesday", a line from 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Landis has referred to the trademark as a title of a film that he dreamed up when he was 15. SYNW appears in many of his films. It can be seen on a poster in Ophelia's apartment in TRADING PLACES.

Trading Places Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) An eternal favourite This remains one of the funniest movies I've seen. Aykroyd and Murphy are spectacular, with able support from Bellamy, Ameche and Curtis' chest.
So many classic scenes. Too many to mention. Only the scene where they all dress up as strange characters wears a bit thin (to me), the rest is gold.
Even the title of this release "Lookin' good, Feelin' good Edition" made me laugh.
Highly recommended. Submitted by derekj (Melbourne, Vic, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Heredity vs. Enviroment The very wealthy brothers Randolph and Mortimer Duke portrayed by legends Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche, are sitting around their exclusive club having a little tiff on the theory of Heredity vs. Enviroment. After bestowing a very generous Christmas bonus of five dollars to the man who sees to their needs year round, they make a little wager. The bet...take their most trusted employee(Aykroyd), and play with his life until he becomes an outcast. Take a street-wise con-artist(Murphy),and give him a taste of the good life. Who will prevail? Will the Harvard grad, still be the person he was, after losing everything, or will he turn to crime? And what about the con man? Will his new enviroment make a new man out of him or will he still resort to his old ways? Watching these two "Trading Places" is one of the most fun 2 hours you can spend. The story takes place between Christmas and New Years so it's a great Holdiay film to add to your collection as well.
The cast is marvelous.Dan Aykroyd is the perfect snob, and Eddie Murphy, well he's just great at being Eddie Murphy. Jaime Lee Curits is the hooker with a heart(who's looking to increase her bank account and get off her back),Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy show they haven't lost what it took to become the legends they are, and Denholm Elliot is perfectly cast as the butler in on the action. Adding to the fun are Bo Didley,Paul Gleason, Frank Oz and James Belushi. Directing this wonderful cast is John Landis, who doesn't miss a trick and the music by Elmer Bernstein sets the tone perfectly as usual. The movie is rated R for some some scenes of nudity(do we expect any less from JLee?).
The DVD is a great buy. The anamorphic widescreen picture is gorgeous. Clear and bright with beautiful colors, the film does not appear to be 20 years old already. You have the choice of Dolby Dig 5.1 surround sound or stereo surround sound, both are excellent. There are English subtitles and it may be viewed in French(mono). There are no special feautres though.
Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy are hilarious as a millionaire and street hustler, respectively, who trade places in this silly but amusing comedy. The immaculate casting is what raises this film above the usual "Saturday Night Live alumnae" mode of filmmaking.
Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche are great as a pair of incredibly sleazy capitalist brothers. Denholm Elliott walks away with the film as an incredulous Butler. And Jamie Lee Curtis is the hooker with a heart of gold.
Cast in the 1939 film,'The Story of Alexander Graham Bell' Don Ameche became a household name in America. When the standard question would appear on students test papers: Who invented the telephone? The answer either in jest or ignorance: Don Ameche. His defining role came in the Ron Howard-directed movie 'Cocoon' which landed him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Ralph Bellamy, the distinguished actor, with deep set blue eyes and a distinctive, resonant voice, played every type of role imaginable in his long and varied career. Some of his later roles, which are best known to film audiences, include a devil worshiper in the guise of a kind doctor, in Rosemary's Baby (1968), and as the rather mean-spirited rich man who tries to take advantage of Eddie Murphy in Trading Places. Don Ameche played Bellamy's spoiled brother in Trading Places (1983). The two had great comedic chemistry together-even as unlikable characters. His last role was in Pretty Woman (1990) with Julia Roberts. "I turned down Chinatown," admitted Bellamy. "The script the director sent me was from page one...incest. And I'm no prig, I'm no prude but it just did not seem worthwhile doing a role that would be denounced even if it were well done. I didn't want any part of it. John Huston finally played the part and received an Academy Award for it," he added with a laugh. His most moving experience, professionally, was when he received his honorary Oscar in 1987, an award long overdue. "It was a remarkable experience.

Trading Places review
$13.39 Personnel: J-Zone (rap vocals, keyboards, vinyl scratches); Masta Ace, Al-Shid, Go-Rilla Pimps, Copywrite, J-Ro, King T, Celph Titled (rap vocals). Standing in sharp contrast to the blinged-out extravagance of another New York rapper who shares his initials, J-Zone is a well-realized and often hilarious caricature of life on the opposite end of the economic spectrum. In between attempting to romance the neighborhood women with trips to new French restaurant La Chateau Blanc (that'd be White Castle) and haggling over a parking spot with his prickly grandmother, the compulsively self-effacing Zone obsesses over his broke-down ride ("5-$tar Hooptie"), stubbornly demands money for freestyles ("Fuck You, Pay Me"), and laments the fake gold chain hanging around his neck ("Bling Around the Collar"). Although there's a high punch line quotient here, Zone's ...
| | Freddy vs. Jason DVDs (2003) Full Frame; Widescreen; Subtitled
Trading Places DVD
$8.05 Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory.
Jason is up to the task, quickly dispensing with teenager after teenager ...
