Studio recording from New Orlean's blues/soul shouter, Marva Wright supported by the "cream" of New Orleans Musicians. Brilliant covers of blues, soul and country classics.
Though the New Orleans singer Marva Wright seems like she's been around since the 1960s, she in fact only made her first record in 1991. She's accompanied on this eclectic, Nola-centric collection of country, pop and R&B covers by an all-star lineup of Big Easy session musicians, notably performing inspirational versions of Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher," Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," and Sly Stone's "Stand," as well as a downbeat reading of Willie Nelson's "Crazy" and the haunting title track.
Personnel: June Yamagishi (guitar); Jason Mingledorf, Donald Harrison (saxophone); Brian Murray (trumpet); Davell Crawford, Allen Toussaint (piano); Davella Crawford, Keiko Komaki (organ); Michael Goods (keyboards); Jefrey Alexander, Eddie Christmas (drums); Cornell Williams, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Geechie Johnson, Benny Turner (background vocals).

After The Levees Broke songs
$10.55 In the mid-1970s, a band of well-scrubbed art-school graduates appeared on the CBGB's scene in New York City. The name of this band was Talking Heads, and from '77 to '88, they released eight studio albums of inventive and utterly catchy avant-garde pop that turned the rock world on its ear. Fueled by vocalist/guitarist David Byrne's quirky, "I'm tense and nervous, and I can't relax" personality, the group seemed fully formed from the get-go, as evidenced by the martial rhythms and chiming guitars of "Love -> Building on Fire" and the deranged funk of "Psycho Killer."
Following this early era, THE BEST OF TALKING HEADS moves into the quartet's lengthy collaboration with sonic scientist Brian Eno, including the herky-jerky funk of their take on Al Green's "Take Me to the River," the desperate story-song "Life During Wartime," and the transcendent avant-pop masterpiece "Once in a Lifetime." Rounding out this BEST OF are the Heads' poppier, post-Eno songs ("Road to Nowhere," "And She Was," and others). Although there are more extensive Talking Heads collections out there (the two-disc POPULAR FAVORITES 1976-1992/SAND IN THE VASELINE and the three-CD/one-DVD box set ONCE IN A LIFETIME), this concise, single-disc compilation is an ideal introduction to the utterly ...
| | Rockin' The Spirit: Piano Blues, Boogie & Spirituals CD (2005)
After The Levees Broke album
$16.39 After attending an annual boogie-woogie concert organized by Mark Braun (Mr. B.), Monty Alexander headed a recording project that paid tribute to both boogie-woogie and spirituals. Five pianists participated, performing two numbers apiece, with four of the players (all but Alexander) playing a pair of duets. Alexander, Eric Reed, and Johnny O'Neal are better known nationally than Bob Seeley and Mark Braun, but all five pianists fare well, stretching beyond boogie-woogie and spirituals to include a few swing standards and even a bluish duet on Benny Golson's "Whisper Not." Recommended to boogie-woogie fans and the curious. ~ Scott Yanow
\"We all have our stories and our lives – I am a writer, singer and piano player, but if I have to define my profession, I am a storyteller.\"When you talk with Nathan Lee about his music, it\'s immediately apparent that his life\'s story is intimately connected with his craft – and it\'s this connection that his fans and critics alike are drawn to.Since committing himself full time to writing and performing, Nathan and his band have enjoyed successful tenures at some of downtown Nashville\'s best known venues, including a 2007 season at The Rutledge, where he recorded the live LP, Down at The Rutledge. This was followed in 2008 by a series of sold-out shows at 12th & Porter, which led to an appearance on the PBS TV documentary Legends & Lyrics, airing nationally Spring 2009, where he shared the stage with Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx and 3 Doors Down. \"My faith is what drives me – it informs every lyric and every show - somehow, in all the chaos of the music industry, I\'ve carved a niche out of being in-definable.\"\"Despite my deep faith, I\'m too ...
