Secret Disco album
$6.79 Boz Scaggs's 1976 breakthrough, SILK DEGREES, was not only his biggest-selling album, it was also one of his best. Here Scaggs collaborated with keyboardist and bandleader David Paich, who would soon form the hugely successful band Toto with this record's drummer, Jeff Porcaro. In Paich, Scaggs found a foil who added just enough pop gloss to make his blues- and R&B-tinged material palatable to the masses. Crucially, though, the pair keeps Scaggs's remarkable voice at the center of things, never going too far overboard with the studio polish. As a result, hit singles "Lowdown" and, particularly, the horn-spiked R&B of "Lido Shuffle" still sound fresh, while the ballads remain soulful. ...

| | Red Shack Presents Urban Tongues CD (2003)
Secret Disco songs
$14.79 Urban Tongues is a collective project which features three up and coming rappers (Sun of Life, KJ and Calliown) with production by Shaka Shabazz who is already working on a second release in September 2003. Before the launching of the Urban Tongues project, each contributor was raw and untested when it came to recording professionally. Nevertheless, each member stepped to the plate and delivered. You don't have to take my word for it, listen to the CD. Of course, Red shack's production style is unique (doesn't everyone believe that about their production). Under the direction of producer/owner Shaka Shabazz, in just five months, four men from different walks of life and four different lyrical approaches came together to deliver an LP full of range, creativity and style. The project features each rapper holding his own while at the same time proving his ability to share the mic. These days, almost anything goes in music production and Redshack takes full advantage of that when it come to lacing tracks. Redshack's production style is undoubtedly unique and offers an alternative to the copycat gansta style of production so often repeated locally. But, everything isn't for everyone and there may be those who Redshack won't stimulate (we'll certainly go for the senses though). Sun of Life brings a combination of soulful lyrical flow with strong, no holds barred attitude by blending a love for life, respect and social commentary as a package deal. Sun of Life's smooth and low key delivery is what sets off from the other members of Urban Tongues. K. J. is that rare gift. He possesses a natural ability to tell graphic and lighthearted stories with just enough rawness to suit the hard heads. His style comes in the spirit of Slick Rick or Dana Dane but with a southern, laid back flow. Listen to some of his tracks (Ah' Day Like This/ It Gets Better) and you will immediately feel and see what he's relaying. Without a doubt, K. J. can very easily be distinguished as the ladies' man of Urban Tongues. Callione's style and delivery is what sets me apart from the others in Urban Tongues. I bring a party flavor to the group and deliver with a sense of lyrical foreplay. My take is that there is a vast amount of topics to rap about and there is more to reality music than what's dark and negative. Shaka focuses on destruction and annihilation. I've never sold drugs, did prison time, or killed anyone, so naturally I ...
