Purchase Explorations CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Diana Krall Quiet Nights CD (2009)
Explorations album
$13.69 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. ...

| | Miles Davis Tribute To Jack Johnson CD (1970) Remastered
Explorations album
$7.59 A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles's ...
| | Spyro Gyra Road Scholars CD (1997)
Explorations CD music
$12.65 If you don't like Lite Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Instrumental Pop, whatever you want to call it; stuff that wouldn't sound out of place in between David Sanborn and Kenny G on your local radio station, you probably shouldn't even be reading this far, because Spyro Gyra are avatars of the style. If their bag is your bag, however, you can feel comfortable diving right in to the sonic tapestry that is ROAD SCHOLARS. The band's synth-driven ...

| | 50th Anniversary Celebration: Back To Balboa CDs (1995) Boxed Set
Explorations album
$44.89 Recorded live at the Hyatt Newporter Resort, Newport Beach, California in 1991. Includes liner notes by Ken Poston, Dave Pell and Audree Coke Kenton.
STAN KENTON 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION - BACK TO BALBOA is a 5-CD set recorded during a four-day concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stan Kenton Orchestra's debut at the Rendezvous Ballroom on Balboa Island, California. Discs 1 and 2 feature a band of Kenton alumni led by Kenton composer-arrangers Pete Rugolo, William Russo, Shorty Rogers, Bill Holman, Hank Levy, Buddy Childers, Lennie Niehaus and Marty Paich. Discs 3 and 4 feature Kenton sidemen and arrangers leading their own bands. Disc 5 includes four panel discussions of Kenton's band.
During the 50th anniversary of Stan Kenton's debut at the Rendezvous Ballroom on Balboa Island in California (an engagement that served as a spectacular beginning to his career), a four-day convention was held to celebrate the late bandleader's legacy, filled with music by his alumni and very interesting panel discussions. The MAMA Foundation put out many of the highlights on this very impressive five-CD set. The first two CDs have 29 selections by an all-star orchestra (which includes among others, ...
| | Evening In Nivram: Music Of Shadows CDs (1997)
Explorations CD music
$11.35 Even as the overcrowded field of tribute albums go, this is a pretty goofy and arcane take on the concept. The Shadows were a popular band in Britain and much of the rest of the world, but never made a dent in the United States. Yet all of the 18 artists on this compilation, released three decades after the Shadows had passed their prime, are American. That in itself says something about just how wide niche collector fanaticism for early rock music had gotten by the end of the 20th century. Aside from Davie Allan & the Arrows and James Mankey of Concrete Blonde, none of the performers have much name recognition, though some have albums and cult reputations in the indie world, like Teisco del Rey, the Boss Martians, and the Aqua Velvets. But all sociological hand-wringing aside, this is actually ...

| | Tedd Baker Mugshots CD (2006)
Explorations songs
$15.95 Tenor and soprano saxophonist Tedd Baker brings raw energy to every performance by creating a unique soulful sound full of original phrases based firmly in the tradition. Tedd strives to connect immediately with his patrons and fellow band mates as is evident in the approving hollers on the bandstand and the applause in the audience. Tedd is also well respected among his peers and has a great rapport among fellow musicians. Both a composer and performer, Tedd is celebrating the release of his all-original debut CD “MUGSHOTS” this year. Born in Binghamton, NY, Tedd was raised near Boston and started studying piano at the age of 6. He switched to the tenor sax at 10 and started exploring jazz. Tedd also studied the bass guitar in his early teens, yet began playing the saxophone professionally in Boston during high school. Tedd then attended New England Conservatory on a scholarship, and earned a bachelor’s degree. While attending NEC, Tedd placed as runner-up in the Boston Jazz Society scholarship competition, and regularly performed in the Boston and New York City areas. Upon graduation, he toured the Middle East with a jazz trio, and after returning, actively performed and recorded in the Northeast's jazz, blues and beyond scenes. In 1998, he moved to Queens, NY, continuing to perform while earning a Master of Arts degree from The Aaron Copeland School of Music, Queens College (CUNY). While at Queens College, Tedd placed first in the 2000 Hilton Head Jazz Society Competition.Tedd Baker has performed professionally as a sideman with many jazz masters and numerous "up and coming" jazz musicians both in the USA and overseas including Barry Harris, Pete Yellin, Slide Hampton, Jon Faddis, Darren Barrett, Duane Eubanks, Donnie McCaslin, Allyn Johnson, Jeremy Pelt, Richard Johnson, Jaz Sawyer, Kevin Louis, John Sullivan, Grady Tate, Allison Miller, Michael Mossman, Arturo O'Farrill, Andrew Adair, Steve Hass and Quincy Davis.
