Old Machine album
$14.65 An ambitious world fusion project, SIWAN brings together the Norwegian pianist Jon Balke, Moroccan singer Amina Alaoui, the Early Music ensemble Barokksolistene, minimalist trumpeter Jon Hassell, and others in a cross-cultural melange that imagines itself somewhere back in the medieval times of Andalusia, during the era when Spain was dominated by Muslim rule. With the expert help of Barokksolistene (Baroque solists), ...
| | Masada Quintet Stolas: Book Of Angels Volume 12 CD (2009)
Old Machine CD music
$13.09 STOLAS is the 12th volume in John Zorn's BOOK OF ANGELS series of compositions, and it's a welcome and compelling idea that he decided to re-form his stellar Masada quintet for the occasion. In addition to the rhythm section of Joey Baron and Greg Cohen, trumpeter Dave Douglas, and pianist Uri Caine, Zorn enlisted tenor sax giant Joe Lovano to replace him on all but one cut where he adds his alto, making the group a sextet. Here klezmer, Yiddish folk music, bossa nova, and other Latin jazz all come together in a seamless meld of tunes that accent the symmetry of ensemble play as much as they do an extremely advanced sense of ensemble harmonics, rhythmic invention, and, of course, tautly arranged spaces for individual ...

Old Machine CD music
$13.49 Terra feels like an attempt to move Mariza into the musical mainstream. She's already established herself at the forefront of fado, as one of the leading performers of the emotive Portuguese style, and there's no doubt she possesses a wonderful voice. But the addition of several guests, such as Chucho Valdés, Ivan Lins, and Tito Paris (among others) seems to open up the seams between fado and other genres, including Brazilian music ...

Old Machine music CDs
$16.45 I started writing songs in 1959. The first recordings I made were at Cuca Records in Sauk City, Wisconsin. At that time just about everyone that had a band or wrote songs recorded at Cuca. The last time I was in the studio was in 1970. When my mother passed away on February 2nd, 2007 I wrote a song as kind of a tribute to this great woman called "No Disappointments Up There." It's a bluegrass Gospel song and after I sang it a few times for family and friends they suggested that I record it along with several other songs I had written. Another song called Deer Hunting Season Again was recorded on the CD called Kindly Keep It Country. It's a song I wrote about 20 years back and is a humorous look at Deer Hunting in the State of Wisconsin. I contacted a recording studio that I had read about in the local scandal sheet called RY Productions in Willard, Wisconsin and talked with Richie Yurkovich and told him what I had in mind. He said he could get the musicians to back me if I wanted to make a record of some of the songs I wrote over the last 50 plus years. The musicians he got were exceptional. We went into the studio and Kindly Keep It Country is the result of four months of work in the studio. Chet Atkins told my father over 40 years ago that if you surrounded yourself with quality musicians you couldn't help but make yourself sound good. With this CD I guess I proved that. All of the songs on the CD I wrote, but without the quality musicians the songs would be just another tune. This CD will take you back in time to when the Nashville Sound was the country sound. The CD also features a little bit of the Roy Orbison sound with a Marty Robbins flavor. The last song on the CD is called It's Still Raining and makes one think about the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn. This CD started as simply me wanting to have ...
