| | One True Thing Finally... CD (2004)
Last Night When We Were Young CD music
$15.19 Long Island, New York − The suburb that brought you indie rock heavyweights such as Glassjaw, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, & From Autumn To Ashes....unleash ONE TRUE THING.Formed by guitarist Milan Millevoy (as Scarab) in '94, what would evolve into a sonic fusion of sound began as a three-piece post hardcore act influenced by the likes of Helmet and Quicksand. Vocalist Melanie Wills joined the fold later through an ad at a local record shop. Though her mammoth throat work spoke volumes, her young age (a mere 16 years old) left her potential band mates skeptical. Regardless, it took just one audition to secure her position in the band. A modest three-song demo earned the band a spot at the celebrated New Music Seminar in New York City. Impressed by their engaging sound and poignant stage presence, ESP Management (Bad Company, Megadeth, Corrosion Of Conformity etc.) latched on to Scarab and would consequently represent the band for the next two years. After signing a lucrative publishing deal with Zomba, the band headed out on the road. Though their live shows upped their precision and widened their fan base, turmoil ran rampant throughout the Scarab camp. Antonio Longo (bass) left temporarily to form and sing for Victory recording artists, Taking Back Sunday, and a series of Spinal Tap-esque drummer replacements plagued the band and left the future in doubt. At this point, they changed their name to the more appropriate ONE TRUE THING − a reference to the only thing that remained true: the music. Though they remained busy (Melanie sang co-vocals on the song "Short Stories With Tragic Endings" off From Autumn To Ashes' breakthrough album, Too Bad You're Beautiful, as well as taking lead vocals on the song "Autumn's Monologue", on their follow-up, The Fiction We Live) things seemed bleak. Was ONE TRUE THING dangling from its last rope? In 2001, former Fahrenheit 451 skin basher Ray Greene was enlisted to solidify the band's drummer slot and Longo returned on bass in 2003. After recording an assortment of new tunes at studios across New York, ONE TRUE THING signed with fast-rising Play the Assassin Records to unleash the fittingly titled Finally. The disc, produced by Tom Soares (Sick Of It All, Leeway, Shelter etc.), is indeed a true work of creative genius welding rich, sonorous rhythms with thoughtful lyrics and Wills' incessantly penetrating vocals. ONE TRUE THING don't just play music − they paint lush landscapes of sound. Finally consists of 12 diary-style tales of love and loss. "Monster" and "Watch You Fall" rock with enough fury and crunch to incite live audiences, while "Who's Amazing" and "In A Whisper" overflow with pop sensibilities and hooks that position themselves toward runs at the top of modern ...
