| | Dan Penn Do Right Man CD (1994)
Hourglass songs
$5.95 In an age of wretched excess, listening to DO RIGHT MAN is like receiving a postcard from a long lost friend. A legendary figure from the golden age of soul who first emerged in the late '50s, Dan Penn is best known as a songwriter, having penned such classics as "Cry Like A Baby," "I'm Your Puppet" and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man." Here, on ten superb arrangements, Dan Penn demonstrates that there's a world of difference between celebrating sensuality and writing something truly sexy, between dropping beats and laying down a collective groove, between screaming histrionics and subtle, soulful expression.
Penn's voice is a gruff malleable instrument, capable of tremendous emotional twists and turns, but it's the depth of his sincerity that stands out ...
| | Lou Ann Barton Read My Lips CD (1989)
Hourglass album
$10.79 Lou Ann Barton didn't have the best of luck in her early career. Incongruously signed to a major label for 1982's Old Enough, she delivered a fine debut that was utterly out of step with the times. Shunted to a tiny indie in her adopted hometown of Austin, she recorded 1986's oddly poppy Forbidden Tones, an album of John Hiatt and Beatles covers that recalled Marti Jones' albums from the same period; it was a fine record, but it was a complete stylistic aberration. Barton returned to her blues-rock roots for 1989's Read My ...

| | Aesthetics Two Bit Tricks CD (2005)
Hourglass songs
$9.59 This guitar based three piece Alt Rock group hailing from the San Francisco Bay area blends a melodic Rock mentality with a powerful, gritty, grunge-like angst. But once you think you've figured them out, The Aesthetics will take a left turn into a slightly demented power country/pop tune or a slow ballad, somehow never loosing sight of their original musical focus."Straight-up rock served with a dose of octane boost. Crack the drums, rev up the bass, set the amp for "distort", and let's go put on a show for the good people who bought the tickets. The Aesthetics are a lot of rock with some country and punk thrown in for flavor. This nicely produced CD, complete with comic book horror art that's collectible in its own right, is a worthy listen. Good stuff. Sounds like the Replacements, REM & Red Hot Chili Peppers fought in a back alley, and the Replacements won, mostly."-IndieMusicSite.comReview link: ...
| | Captain T Arkansas Years PT. 2 CD (2006)
Hourglass album
$17.69 CAPTAIN “T”(Arkansas’ Folk Music Ambassador)Captain “T” is the alterego of one “Tom Hunnicutt”, who currently resides in Williford, Arkansas. Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Arkansas with his mother, brothers and sister at age 11. Fro that point on Tom was raised in the Opposition Community, a few miles south of Ravenden and his current home and just off Spring River, where he played, fished and enjoyed life as a teenager. He attended school in one of the old “One Room School Houses” where the teacher taught all the grades up through the eight grade. His mother, Odell Linda Perry Hunnicutt raised nine of her eleven children right there in Opposition.Tom learned to play the guitar as a young boy and started singing early in his life and he tells us he’ll be singing when he dies most likely. He first started singing all the old Gene Autry tunes, but as time passed he found himself copy cating all the country and folk singers of his day. In 1956 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served twice in South Vietnam. Even during his combat days all the country boys took their music boxes with them and jammed in places most of us would never consider. Just imagine sitting on a bunker playing away with someone yelling, “Hey, you nuts, that is INCOMING!!!” Well, they just moved inside, but kept playing, as if it was more important than heading for cover. The term Captain “T” goes a bit further than his Marine Corps days as he was also commissioned into the California National Guard Reserves, as a Captain during the mid-late 1980s. He soon found himself becoming the Commanding Officer of the 502nd Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Brigade, which was commanded by Colonel David Patton (the nephew of the late General Patton). However, during that period his health became an issue and in the late 1980s he had to resign ...

Hourglass songs
$16.45 On the "Cash Money" CD, Catfish Willie is like a split personality. On one hand they are a Roots Rock/Blues powerhouse and then they turn right around into kind of a Rockabilly/Alt Country band. Somehow it fits together in an (earlier) Rolling Stones kind of way and sounds totally natural. The guitar playing is phenominal and draws comparisons to Alvin Lee, Michael Bloomfield, Peter Green and that ilk. Equally, vintage equipement snobs will be in heaven when hearing the collection of classic amplifiers expertly recorded in their most raw ...
| | Lee Dewyze So I'm Told CD (2007)
Hourglass album
$14.79 Lee DeWyze is a talented singer/songwriter who relies on melody and emotion to construct unique, memorable, and emotionally charged songs. Dewyze blends elements of many different styles and influences to create his own approach to the traditional typecast of acoustic singer/songwriter. He can change directions in mid-stride, when you think he's going left- he goes up, when you think he's going back- he goes right, and keeping in tune with him has kept producers Louis Svitek and Ryan McGuire on their toes. DeWyze states,"I want a connection with my audience in the sense that any song I do reminds them of a specific moments in their lives-not mine...I want listeners to say 'Wow, he was ...
