| | Dry Branch Fire Squad 30th Anniversary: Special Edition CD Dry Branch Fire Squad Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
The bluegrass outfit Dry Branch Fire Squad has been turning out acoustic, old-timey goodness since the 1960s, and this THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL compilation provides a thoroughly enjoyable look back at the band's beginnings. Drawing on the Squad's first five albums, THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY proves that this group of pickers and grinners has been nailing intricate guitar licks and lovely high lonesome harmonies since their inception. Like most of the Squad's work, this is excellent stuff.
Dry Branch Fire Squad: Hazel Dickens (tenor); Brian Aldridge, Tommy Boyd, Charles Leet (baritone); Adam McIntosh (guitar); John Hisey, Danny Russell, Dan Russell, Ron Thomason, Suzanne Thomas, Bobby Maynard (banjo); Dave Edmundson (fiddle); Charlie Leet (acoustic bass); Dick Erwin (bass guitar); Mary Jo Leet (background vocals).

| | Ty Herndon Right About Now CD (2007)
30th Anniversary: Special Edition music CDs
$14.59 Country singer Ty Herndon is back in the studio after a six-year break. Yeah, there was a Christmas record a couple of years back, but this is the first time the Meridian, Mississippi wonder has done an honest to goodness modern country record in nearly seven years. Herndon hit the charts and the road in a fury during the mid-'90s, and his demons hit back hard. Right: Herndon had a hellhound on his trail. Right About Now is one of those records that a man makes when he feels he has everything to prove. On the Jackson/Titan independent label (which is distributed by Fontana), Herndon lays out ...

30th Anniversary: Special Edition album
$21.05 While alternative rockers such as Jewel are making forays into the Fresh Country market, ostensibly country performers like Shelby Lynne are preoccupied with blurring distinctions in the other direction. Lynne has positioned herself as quite the iconoclast, and in this successor to I AM SHELBY LYNNE, which was the first album in what is really the second act of a career that stretches back to the late 1980s, she further ...
| | Cafe Accordion Orchestra Le Disque Francais CD (2004)
30th Anniversary: Special Edition CD music
$14.79 At Cafe Accordion Orchestra's performances, the most frequently posed question to the band is, "Which of your CDs has the most French music?" Now, the answer is, "this one!"This recording is a testament to CAO's ten-year love affair with French music. Many styles of French popular music from the 20th century are included here. Musette, the lovely gypsy-influenced waltz, is represented by two classics from accordion giants Tony Moreno and Jo Colombo: Indifférence and Méprise. We pay tribute to the seminal gypsy guitarist Django Rheinhardt with two of his best-known compositions: Swing 42, and a rumba version of Nuages. Bad-boy cultural icon Serge Gainsbourg is feted with Elaeudanla Téïtéïa, featuring our own bad-boy Joe on typewriter. CAO breaks new personal ground in a rocked-out rendition of the cabaret star's rant against rock, Chez les Yé Yé. We hope Mr. G. would appreciate the tongue-in-cheek ...
| | Half Man Half Biscuit Cammell Laird Social Club CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
30th Anniversary: Special Edition music CDs
$27.59 Given that Half Man Half Biscuit legendarily broke up in 1986 at the peak of their U.K. indie scene stardom -- supposedly because singer/songwriter Nigel Blackwell was finding it increasingly difficult to fit his TV watching and football fandom into the band's growing demands on his time -- it's surprising how comfortingly regular their release schedule has been since their early-'90s re-formation: every couple of years, there's a new album of Blackwell's inimitable sketches of modern British life. The most defiantly British songwriter in pop music history -- he makes Village Green Preservation Society-era Ray Davies look positively mid-Atlantic -- Blackwell returns with another ...
