| | Seed Of Chucky DVD (2004) Widescreen; Subtitled; DTS Sound; Unrated
Silk review
$8.79 Everyone's favorite plastic slasher doll, Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif), returns for a fifth installment of this popular horror series. Apparently Chucky and his equally murderous bride, Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly), had a child, which has grown up in a cage as part of a heavy-metal ventriloquist act in England. Eventually it (one never learns its exact gender) escapes to Los Angeles to revive mom and pop, whose doll corpses are being used for a movie based on their previous killing spree. Jennifer Tilly shows up as herself, and she's great--hamming it up as a floozy actress so desperate for the part in rapper Redman's latest film that she lures him home for a casting couch tryst, with hilarious (and fatal) results. Meanwhile, the child of Chucky is horrified by the violent murders its parents are so fond of committing and, with a little help from a 12-step book, tries to help them kick the homicide habit. Of course it's hard when there are so many deserving targets around, including John Waters as a scuzzy paparazzi. In sum, this is one crazy sequel; it's got a refreshing lack of morals, a light heart, and a clever script with a lot of great insider jokes for buffs. The gore is extreme though, including eviscerations, beheadings, melting flesh, ...

$14.35 James Yang inherits a mansion from unknown relatives and moves in with his fiancée, Yo, but they soon realize that the house has a grisly past: 20 years ago, an entire family hanged themselves from the rafters. Soon, eerie events and ghostly visions begin to occur--and then Yang's friend Cheng winds up dead, with a ghastly mark on his neck. Yo becomes committed to finding the macabre secret of the house and the Yang family, and discovers from a lunatic aunt that the family has a dark legacy--one that Yang might be doomed to repeat.
In 2005, the creepiest and most stylish horror movies hailed from Asia, and this ghastly gem shows why: unlike the slash-a-second splatterfest of American fare, the new Asian horror seems content to let the unsaid and unseen slowly crescendo into something truly terrifying.
Twenty years ago, an inexplicable mass suicide occurred in the millionare Yang household, where the entire family hanged themselves at the exact same time. Only one member survived. To this day, ...

$9.99 An intelligent horror film that is equal parts mathematical acumen and very realistic gore, CUBE ZERO is the third installment in the popular Canadian indie CUBE series. A prequel to the first, the central scheme is the same: a diverse group of individuals prone to infighting wake up in a booby trap-laden cube where one identical chamber leads to another. With no exit in sight, they are forced to get along and make use of their respective talents, but many--usually those with the most antagonistic personalities--are lost along the way. This installment, however, provides some answers the mystery of the Cube, with a subplot involving a technician on the "other side" who experiences a change of heart, and undertakes ...

$11.29 Bursting at the seams with clever cinematic ideas, Rodney Evans's BROTHER TO BROTHER captures the essence of contemporary black gay life in America by drawing parallels with the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Perry (Anthony Mackie) is a young gay student at Columbia University who moonlights as a worker in a homeless shelter. Feeling something is missing from his life, but unable to form the essential questions which will lead to the answers he so desperately craves, Perry unloads his existential angst onto the shoulders of his straight best friend Marcus (Larry Gilliard Jr.). Perry finds inspiration in the pages of a book on the Harlem Renaissance, and takes a journey back in time to meet some of the characters who dominated the neighborhood in the 1920s. First up is an encounter with the elderly painter and writer Richard Bruce Nugent (portrayed here with extreme pathos by Roger Robinson), who offers Perry a nostalgic foray into the history of black, gay culture. Bruce's stories are reenacted in black-and-white, and introduce Perry to esteemed figures such as Langston Hughes (Daniel Sunjata); Wallace Thurman (Ray Ford); Zora Neale Hurston (Aunjanue Ellis); and a younger incarnation of Nugent (played by Duane Boutte). Their words simultaneously capture the essence of the gay American experience, and provide ...
