Purchase Cheyene CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Faces Nod Is As Good As A Wink... To A Blind Horse CD (1971)
Cheyene album
$6.15 When this was released in 1971, the Faces also released LONG PLAYER (following the dropping of "Small" from the band's name) and frontman Rod Stewart released the seminal EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY. The three-album output was especially remarkable for the Faces, as the band was more known for skirt-chasing and carousing than recording music. NOD found the Faces fusing together a grittier blues and soul sound than on past efforts, ...
| | Silver Apples/Contact CD (1968)
Cheyene CD music
$12.05 Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (MCA Music Media Studios, North Hollywood, California).
When the Silver Apples were formed in the mid-60's, Simeon Coxe and Danny Taylor had no way of knowing that they were forging the prototype of experimental electronic music. Connecting over a dozen oscillators, Coxe created a homemade synthesizer which produced a world of futuristic bleeps, sweeps, distortions, and repetitious basslines. With the addition of Taylor's drums, they sounded like The Velvet Underground fronted by Nikola Tesla. In 1968 they released their ...

| | Alberta Hunter Complete Recorded Works, Vol. 2 (1923-24) CD (1996)
Cheyene music CDs
$13.15 Volume two in the complete early works of Alberta Hunter as reissued by Document in the 1990s covers the remainder of her Paramount recordings dating from 1923-1924. Her accompanists on these sides included pianist Fletcher Henderson as well as Henderson's Dance Orchestra, consisting of cornetist Elmer Chambers, trombonist George Brashear, clarinetist Don Redman, and banjoist Charlie Dixon. The cornetist paired with Henderson on "Michigan Water Blues" and "Down South Blues" was Joe Smith, a capable accompanist who also made records with Bessie Smith. The pianist on "Stingaree Blues" and "You Can't Do What My Last Man Did" was young Thomas Fats Waller who, like his mentor James P. Johnson, provided a lot of backing for blues singers during the mid-'20s. On Blind Willie ...

| | Raygun...Naked Raygun CD (1990)
Cheyene album
$12.25 With the departure of guitarist John Haggerty, Naked Raygun seemed to stumble out of touch, as Raygun...Naked Raygun fails to achieve the full potency of their previous few albums. Part of that is due to the lack of clarity in some songs' production, but Haggerty's absence also deprives the group of some of its edgy instrumental spark, and the lyrics seem less relevant than before, mixing clichéd skateboard anthems with affected cyberpunk posturing. Make no mistake, there are still some good songs to be found here; it's just that the album is nowhere near as consistent as its predecessors. ~ Steve Huey
Ironically, but perhaps even more coincidentally, Raygun...Naked Raygun is the only Naked Raygun reissue that is without a guest essay or commentary appearing in the liner notes. Maybe that's because people recognized that by the time the record was released in 1990, Naked Raygun wasn't really Naked Raygun any longer. Of course, the band's name had not changed, and singer Jeff Pezzati was still aboard and backed by veterans Eric Spicer on drums and Pierre Kezdy on bass, but gone was the other important third of the group's chemistry: deft guitarist John Haggerty. Without Haggerty' s presence, Raygun is dry, forever tripping on its own feet. The band's intentions are good, and if Haggerty would've played on the songs instead of Bill Stephens, the record probably would have worked on the level it should, but instead, we hear mostly straightforward songs that are notable for their similarity to music from early-'90s heavy metal bands (Megadeth and Anthrax especially). The passion and cross-cutting tension of early Naked Raygun records don't make it on to Raygun. Aside from the spiraling and screaming "Home," the call-and-response style of "Fever Island," and war-cry of "The Grind," Naked Raygun seem bored, or at least, comfortable with generic ...
| | Partridge Family Crossword Puzzle CD (1973)
Cheyene CD music
$11.65 Crossword Puzzle was the eighth LP from the Partridge Family -- a multimedia, made-for-TV project that hit marketing pay dirt learning lessons from the success of the Monkees' manufactured origins, as well as the real-life pop/rock family the Cowsills. As a weekly prime time sitcom, The Partridge Family ran on ABC-TV from September 25, 1970, through August 31, 1974. As musical artists, they further mimicked the Monkees' phenomenon by having primary cast members -- in this case, Shirley Jones (vocals) and David Cassidy (vocals) -- as the group's lead vocalists. Accompanying Cassidy and Jones was a veritable who's who of studio heavyweights such as Hal Blaine (drums), Larry Carlton (guitar), Joe Osborne (bass), and Larry Knechtel (keyboards). They were joined by the painfully sweet backing vocals of the six-member Love Generation, who participated to some degree on every one of the Partridge Family's LPs. Judging by not only the lackluster chart performance (number 146), but also the complete absence of a 45 rpm single in the States, it is fair to say all remaining vestiges of Partridge-mania were becoming significantly depleted. For the most part, the formulaic unaffected pop song style of Wes Farrell, Terry Cashman, and Tommy West had grown stale. In fact the best material on Crossword Puzzle comes from ...
