Ploetzlich Prinzessin Soundtrack
$10.79 "Endless Summer," Kentucky-based indie rock collective Follow the Train's leadoff track to Breath of Sigh, their debut for San Diego's Darla Records, sounds like just that, a sunset disappearing into the horizon viewed from the luxury of a beat-up convertible hugging the coast. This is dream pop in the vein of early-'90s 4AD bands like the Pale Saints and the Red House Painters with the cool, dark scent of the Church lingering behind it. Frontman Dennis Sheridan adopts Steve Kilbey's laconic ...
| | Maria Mena Apparently Unaffected CD (2006) (Import) Germany
Ploetzlich Prinzessin Soundtrack
$15.75 Hailing from Norway, singer Maria Mena found herself with some surprisingly high success at only 15 years old, a pop prodigy incorporating adult levels of emotion into her songwriting early, and backing it up with a soulful vocal that carries the right pieces to make the sound whole. On Apparently Unaffected, her third album builds strongly upon her previous efforts. While there are a few fairly standardized pop tracks (the bouncing but lyrically flat "Boytoy Baby"), the bulk of the album uses well-constructed arrangements set around the strong but intentionally unmanipulated vocals of Mena. The pieces pack an emotional punch through her delivery as much as through the ...
| | Disney: The Music Behind The Magic CDs (2006) Digipak
Ploetzlich Prinzessin Soundtrack
$22.29 The double-disc set Disney: The Music Behind the Magic was conceived as a celebration of 50 years of Walt Disney Records, but it also works very well as a collection of greatest hits from the studio's films, theme parks, and TV shows. The first disc does a comprehensive and creative job of chronicling Disney's golden age, including required tracks like "Mickey Mouse March," "Some Day My Prince Will Come," "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" but also making room for some slightly less-expected songs like Bambi's "Little April Shower" and The Parent Trap's "Let's Get Together." Annette Funicello's title song for The Monkey's Uncle features the Beach Boys on backing vocals, and famous songs from Disneyland's main attractions, like "It's a Small World," Pirates of the Carribean's "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)," and the Haunted Mansion's "Grim Grinning Ghosts" show just how expansive the Disney world became by the end of the '60s. It would be easy to fill up two discs with classic Disney music from the '30s to the '60s, but the second disc of Disney: The Music Behind the Magic does a good job of spotlighting the best and most interesting moments in Disney music from the '70s to the 2000s. Those aren't necessarily the same songs: 1979's "Home on the Range" comes from Disney's Children's Favorites, which is the studio's longest-running album to stay in print since its release, while ...

| | Stomp The Yard CD (2007) Original Soundtrack
Ploetzlich Prinzessin Soundtrack
$10.09 Even though the critics generally considered it cliché-ridden and forgettable, Stomp the Yard was number one at the box office in its opening week and there was enough talk about it in the media to call it a phenomenon. The one thing the critics all gave in on was that the music and step dancing was exciting to listen ...
