Supernatural album
$9.58 The second Glee soundtrack throws a bone to the show's supporting characters, with Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) singing her first solo and Amber Riley (Mercedes) receiving a larger chunk of airtime. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison continue to steal the show, though; Morrison delivers one of the album's most inventive songs with a mash-up of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Young Girl," while Michele sings the absolute pants off of everything the producers give her. The album sometimes strays away from choral arrangements and focuses on individual actors, but it's ...

| | Gov't Mule By A Thread CD (2009)
Supernatural music CDs
$11.89 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front ...

| | Judy Carmichael High On Fats And Other Stuff CD (1997)
Supernatural songs
$25.35 Judy Carmichael has long been a throwback to pre-bop times. One of the very few stride pianists of her generation (she was in her mid-40s when this recording was made), Carmichael plays in a style reminiscent at times of Fats Waller and James P. Johnson, but with her own personal voice. Even though her trio set with Mike Hashim (who doubles on soprano and alto) and guitarist Chris Flory is sort of a tribute to Waller, only two of his compositions are performed ("Gladyse" and "I've Got a Feelin' I'm Falling"), and most of the other songs do not have any direct connection to Fats. However, the joy of Waller's music is very much present, along with some hard-driving swing. The project was a bit unusual, because as Carmichael made the CD, she was also recording for a reproducing piano system (a modern-day equivalent of a player piano). However, the added pressure ...

Supernatural CD music
$11.49 WHY?...seriously speaking. For all of my years playing music, I've had thehonor to play with wonderful talented musicians. Whenthey would take solos, quoting the melodies of my songs, I got the idea that it might be cool, to do a recording of great players playing new and exciting versions of some of these compositions. John McLane, (God bless him) humored me with this idea, and agreed to co-produce and play many of the instruments, especially on the backing tracks. Put it on during cocktails, dinner, or any time at all. ENJOY, Danny MorganSanibel Samba - the Songs of Danny MorganArtist - Danny Morgan with Very Special GuestsNeed a vacation? Can't get away? Try this easy listening collection of Danny Morgan's tuneful odes to southwest Florida beach life. It's the next best thing to being there. Morgan has entertained Florida vacationers from all over the world for decades with live shows and CDs of his own romantic, beach getaway-themed songs. This time out, however, Morgan offers up an all-instrumental collection of his melodies, supported by his inner circle of favorite musicians. And they are choice musicians, indeed. Morgan has a musical ace-in-the-hole if ever there was one in Maestro John McLane, who provides alto sax and acoustic lead on some of the tracks. And, unless my eyes deceive me, that is McLane pictured on the CD sleeve behind those Ray Bans, and who, as 'Johnny Duke,' takes a piano turn on two more Morgan songs. Come to think of it, Wayward Jensen, on steel pan, vibes and marimba, looks enough like McLane to be his long lost twin brother. Also among the VIP guests is harmonica virtuoso Bob 'Sugarlips' Lotz on the romantic 'Saltwater Kisses. ' 'Paul Rozmus' (of the band Renata) treats Morgan's 'Oh Captiva' to a lively jig treatment on flute. Bob Mosci, the toast of NYC piano bar crooners, contributes piano beautifully on the lovely 'Captiva Moon. ' The athletic 'Running on the Beach' is transformed with Marc Vee on classical guitar. On 'Sanibel Sunset', Vee picks up his electric guitar. Mark Dupuy contributes on both steel pan and flugelhorn. Where does Morgan find these guys? For Morgan fans and anyone else who is tired of not being on Sanibel Beach. This CD, like all of his CDs, will make you wish you were there. Prof. Cliff Adams,University of Cincinnati music departmentHERE'S A LITTLE BACKGROUND IN THE FEATURED PLAYERS:John Grammy McLane: Danny recently put out the call for all traveling vagabond musicians to meet for a recording project. John was first in line. He got free pizza for putting in extra notes during his performances, hence, 'Million-Note-McLane' lived up to his name. Paul Rozmus: flute. With his talented wife / violinist Renata, Paul immigrated from Poland to the U.S. during the height of the cold war. His charting smooth jazz cd "On the Funky Side" still makes people dance at the Jacaranda. Marc Vee: classical guitar & jazz electric: Marc's an accomplished musician who grew up in Miami and has performed with many jazz greats. He literally ran down the beach while playing guitar on "Running on the Beach" That's what helps to infuse it with such a wonderful live ...
