Melanie Fiona's debut single, "Give It to Me Right," was a perfect 2009 pop-R&B recording. The single coupled a timeless classic (the Zombies' "Time of the Season") with roof-raising vocals and infectious pop hooks that stuck like peanut butter. Fiona's single was perfect, albeit a touch formulaic. Because of this, it's no surprise that a large chunk of her debut album, THE BRIDGE, is much of the same. Like any good 2009 pop-soul recording, the album offers influences from decades of soul music. Fiona, a Kanye West protégé, collaborates with about as many styles of music as she has producers and writers, who include most prominently Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Andrea Martin, Rob Fusari, Peter Wade Keusch, Sidh Solanki, Vada Nobles, Bill Blast, Future Cut, Stereotypes, Dan Strong, JK, Jay Fenix, and Affiliate. This mash-up of masterminds is a good thing; it offers the listener generous portions of put-together pop songs which color outside the lines in terms of genre. THE BRIDGE is the perfect launching pad for a solid career where she can further explore her possibilities as an artist, seeing as she appeals to the masses as well as the critics.

When K'Jon languorously croons "I'm finally gettin' around" on the title track of his 2009 debut slab I GET AROUND, he's putting it lightly. Like Anthony Hamilton and so many others before him, the years of hustle pour out in the singer's impassioned voice, and when he intones the near-cliche "I just want you so bad/it just seems so real" in the intro to the torch song "On The Ocean," there's a hunger behind his words of desire giving them power.
An otherworldly `70s vibe pours out of K'Jon on the first half of I GET AROUND, a late-night AM radio tenor of passion and seduction and sex and discarded liquor bottles. His dabbles in the present are less fantastic, but he brings the past and present on "On Everything," a spare track which mixes a sinister, slightly chopped & screwed beat with a beautiful piano hook, and the perfect bedroom-eyed vocals, buoyed by the requisite guest rap (this time by Seven the General). K'Jon at his best combines the sensual prowess of Barry White with the sadness-in-struggle of Bill Withers, dropping a dash of deep soul into the heart of the auto-tune generation.

This CD is a definite hoot- It's an Up-Tempo bunch of fun and a good time. Others claim to be all of this but many fall short. THIS ONE DELIVERS ALL THAT'S PROMISED. It pokes fun at female body parts, boasts male machismo and will have you singing along with the great lyrics and music.CAVEMAN (aka Jay Peay) has written and recorded this mildly offensive CD. It's a little "frisky" and uses a lot of "double entendre". The CD is funny and witty--not vulgar or obscene. The only "expletive delete" used is the word "ass" in the song "SKINNY ASS WOMAN". Jay tried to rewrite the song using a different word but no other word had the same impact. He says that "In our overly politically correct society we've all grown weary of having to pre-analyze every word we say before we say it". Jay's CD doesn't do that.
