Nomad album
$12.05 After a quarter century apart, the core line-up of the jazz quartet Return to Forever--Chick Corea, Lenny White, Stanley Clark, and Al Di Meola--reunited for a world tour in 2008. This remarkable concert film captures the foursome on stage at Montreux, playing bewitching renditions of "Vulcan Worlds," "Sorceress," "Romantic Warrior," and many others.
The band was at the forefront of jazz/rock fusion in the 70s and were formed by a former Miles Davis sideman, in this case the great Chick Corea. Return To Forever hit their commercial and artistic peak with a string of albums in the mid-seventies featuring the line-up of Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Al Di Meola on guitar and Lenny White on drums. In 2008 this classic line-up reunited for their first tour in 25 years and proved that ...

| | Frank Sinatra Nothing But The Best CD (2008) Remastered
Nomad music CDs
$15.65 "The Chairman of the Board" died in May of 1998, yet his music sounds as vital and relevant today as ever. Released on the 10th anniversary of his death--in coordination with a slew of DVD releases commemorating the singer's acting career as well as an official U.S. Postal Service stamp--NOTHING BUT THE BEST provides an excellent look at Sinatra's tenure at the Reprise label. Among the album's 22 vintage cuts are classics such as "The Way You Look Tonight," "Luck Be a Lady," "Strangers in the Night," and "My Way." The disc also contains a bonus track in the previously unreleased recording of "Body and Soul." Diehard Sinatra fans will likely own most of this material, yet as a greatest hits set (albeit covering the Reprise years only) NOTHING BUT THE BEST lives up to its title.

| | Robben Ford Soul On Ten CD (2009)
Nomad songs
$15.29 Some of guitarist Robben Ford's weaknesses, such as song composition and vocals, are rectified or at least made less obvious, on this predominantly live release. On his fourth release for the Concord label, Ford is able to cherrypick better material from inconsistent albums, unearth choice covers, and generally broaden the music with his fiery playing. This, along with the natural energy generated by the stage environment, focuses attention on the guitarist's skills as a creative six-string bluesman who expands the narrow confines of the genre by adding soul and jazz influences. He kicks off the set with a lazy, wah-wah enhanced ...

| | Michael Hedges Aerial Boundaries CD (1985)
Nomad CD music
$7.59 Michael Hedges is considered by many one of the most important innovators of the acoustic guitar. His total dedication to the acoustic guitar enabled him to develop a new approach to the instrument that transcended anything done before. He could sound like two--at times even three--guitarists playing at once, and his compositions drew on a wide variety of influences, from the earthy to the academic. While he is usually associated with the new age movement that flourished in the '80s and early '90s (having recorded on the flagship Windham Hill label), the reach of his music extends far beyond the drivel that the tag suggests.
AERIAL BOUNDARIES incorporates all the elements that characterize Hedges' music: astounding technique, innovative composition, and a spirit of exploration. Where many a musician with half of Hedges' ability would be prone to showboating, the guitarist seems to have thrown away the idea of ego altogether, opting instead for an almost ascetic purity of sound. The result ...

| | Jazz In Paris: Claude Bolling Plays The Original Piano Greats CD (2001)
Nomad songs
$10.49 Claude Bolling is a classical pianist who demonstrated an affinity for jazz with numerous recordings in crossover settings. But this 1972 session recorded for Phillips is strictly a solo piano affair in which Bolling salutes the greats of jazz piano, including Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Jelly Roll Morton, Earl Hines, Erroll Garner, and Horace Silver. He primarily sticks to a stride piano setting, which gives a whole new flavor to Silver's "The Preacher," while his interpretations of the works of stride pianists like Smith are technically polished but seem just a tad mechanical, lacking a true improviser's touch. Likewise, Bolling's ...
