Issued in May 2007 after months of delays, UNITED ABOMINATIONS not only marks Megadeth's first album for the venerable Roadrunner label, it features singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine backed by an entirely new ensemble. In fact, the record's artwork even boasts a revamped depiction of Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot. Clearly, the changes have reinvigorated Mustaine, who is at his snarling best on these fierce tracks, which, like many classic Megadeth tunes, take on issues of politics ("Washington Is Next!"), armed conflict ("Gears of War"), and blind obedience ("Sleepwalker").
Given Mustaine's strong personality and knack for selecting top-notch musicians, the radical personnel shift has no discernable negative effects on the group, with James Lomenzo (bass) and brothers Glen and Shawn Drover (guitar and drums, respectively) contributing to a more streamlined approach that eschews excessive soloing. While Megadeth's aggressive thrash aesthetic is amply showcased on the wire-tight "Sleepwalker," Mustaine also makes room for subtleties, as on a reworking of the melancholy "A Tout Le Monde" (originally on 1994's YOUTHANASIA), which includes guest vocals by Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia. Arguably Megadeth's finest and most assured outing since '92's COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION, UNITED ABOMINATIONS is the sound of metal royalty refusing to give up its throne.
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine, Glen Drover (acoustic guitar); James LoMenzo, Shawn Drover (background vocals).
Additional personnel: Cristina Scabbia (vocals); Axel Mackenrot (keyboards); Chris Rodriguez (background vocals).

It Was Okay, But It Could Have Been Better While it had a few worthy songs on it like Washington is Next, and A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free) featuring Christina Scabbia, i was displeased with the album. I don't expect them to have the same sound that they had 10 and 20 years ago, of course, and the guitar solos are still great as they always have been, but Mustaine is trying to be more up to date in this album, and it did not work out. I love all of his work, but this was not his best. Submitted by miss_murder940 (Oxford, MS, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
dave rules i thought after world needs a hero they were done.this is just incredible. i honestly did not really give dave much of a chance after world needs a hero, don't get me wrong it is a good record but i just lost the spark, this album brought that back. i mean sleepwalker, washington is next, never walk alone, play for blood, these send chills down my spine, after this album i gave the system has failed album a listen to and once again was blown away, dave is just getting better and better, i just love his voice, suits this type of music. i won't even bother with listening to the next metallica record, maybe i will here a song on the radio, even though i do like some of their stuff they are a second rate band compared to megadeth. dave has always had great musicians playing with him, his drummer is just killer. hope you like my review, cya. Uncompromising metal at its best! I couldn't wait for this CD. It seemed to be Megadeth's time to shine and maybe get closer to that Metallica pedistal. Well, that hasn't happened but it's not because of the quality on this cd. It's an absolute all-out metal assault. Just play "Sleepwalker" or "Play for Blood" one time and you'll hear what I mean. "Blessed are the Dead" is the kind of monster song that makes you want to crank it to the proverbial ll. You'll wear this cd out in about a month from continuous play. You'll take a week off, crave it again and then have to hear it continuously for another 2 weeks just to satisfy your appetite. Submitted by bodi (oregon) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

United Abominations album
$8.15 After guitarist Dave Mustaine was booted out of Metallica in 1983, he immediately returned home to San Francisco and formed Megadeth. The new outfit was instantly compared to Mustaine's former band, and the comparisons haven't subsided since. Whereas both outfits shared such musical elements as muted guitar riffs and speedy rhythms, Megadeth's first album seemed to be more influenced by punk and hardcore. KILLING IS MY BUSINESS AND BUSINESS IS GOOD also saw Mustaine's debuting his lead-vocal skills.
Mustaine must have had a lot of pent-up anger to express, since KILLING is simply explosive from beginning to end. The brutal title track lyrically deals with a sniper who revels in hunting down his unsuspecting prey. Nancy Sinatra's hit "These Boots are Made For Walking" is redone as a blinding speed metal ditty. Other highlights include the album opening "Last Rites/Loved to Death" and the pro-heavy metal "Rattlehead." The album-closing "Mechanix" had previously surfaced-as "The Four Horsemen," with different lyrics-on Metallica's ...
