(6 Customer Reviews)
The man behind the late-1990s Ruff Ryders revolution and the king of the Triton (a synthesizer/sampler made famous by Swizz), super-producer Swizz Beatz returns with his second solo project, ONE MAN BAND. While he acts as MC on every cut, surprisingly enough Swizz doesn't handle all the production, calling on Nottz, Neo da Matrix, Needlz, Snags, the Individuals, and the E. Caine Edition to provide supplemental beatwork. Lyrically, Swizz is one serious boaster--touching on such varied topics as the size of his bank account ("Big Munny," "Money in the Bank"), the envy that his many automobiles instills in others ("Top Down"), as well as his prowess as a rugged picture-poser ("Take a Picture"). Lil Wayne, Drag On, Jadakiss, and R. Kelly boost his ego with cameos.
Personnel: Swizz Beatz (rap vocals, programming); R. Kelly (vocals); Drag-On, Jadakiss, Lil Wayne (rap vocals).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Rolling Stone (p.90) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Swizz's skills as a track-builder come through on a handful of hot cuts.....ONE MAN BAND MAN proves what you already knew: Swizz knows how to rock a party." Spin (p.96) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "ONE MAN BAND makes schizophrenia a virtue. Gaudy beats start and stutter on party joints..." XXL (Magazine) (p.128) - "[I]f there's one thing Swizz Beatz can do, it's get the party started....[With] a bevy of bangin' beats that should right out the summer..." If you love the beats and love great music, pick up this album. NOT OVERRATED !!!! Submitted by Henry (Camden, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Little Overrated, But It's OK ... Musically The Album Is Good, It Has A Lot Of Solid Beatz, Tipical Of Swizz, But I Think He Should Be Only A Producer, Not A Singer, It's Not His Work ... Submitted by Perrosky10s (Coximbo, Chilito) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
It was O.K. Though his first album wsa more memorable, everyone to ball out. It's getting very tired... "Part of the Plan" was the crown jewel of this album! Submitted by candy88man2001 (Las Cruces NM by way of Duval CO. FL.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Overrated This guys beats sound all alike, why the hype about him? What makes me mad most about this is the overplayed/oversampled radio track "Money In The Bank." He stole an entire verse from the "God" - Rakim. I can't have that! Submitted by federico1975 (Richmond, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

One Man Band Man
$10.09 "Get You Right," a smooth throwback ballad from Miami outfit Pretty Ricky's debut, BLUESTARS, features a hardcore rap that name-checks 1990s groups H-Town and Jodeci. While the four youthful brothers of Pretty Ricky were likely in grade school when these artists had their hits, it's a fitting reference; the quartet's sound reveals an innate feel for the New Jack Swing sound of that time. This approach is evident in both the record's production and its raw sensuality, and the overall vibe is updated with a Dirty South sensibility.
Pretty Ricky features three rappers--Slick, Spectacular, and Diamond--augmented by the resonant voice of Pleasure, whose alluring style falls somewhere between Stevie Wonder and R. Kelly. The subject matter of BLUESTARS tends toward that of the ...

| | Ugk Underground Kingz CDs (2007)
One Man Band Man
$9.75 Long before Houston rap came to define the sound of the Dirty South, UGK (the Underground Kingz), along with the Geto Boys, were holdin' it down strong for H-Town. While the duo of Bun B and Pimp C never achieved major cross-over success--spitting woozy gangsta tales a few too many years before mainstream radio was prepared for them--they gained a loyal fanbase and the respect of their fellow MCs (chief among them Jay-Z, who featured UGK on his classic track "Big Pimpin'").
After a brief separation marked by prison time for Pimp C and solo albums by both, UGK came back strong on UNDERGROUND KINGZ, a sprawling dripped-and-draped Dirty South block-rocker. A veritable who's-who from across the entire hip-hop spectrum pay their respects here, including Talib Kweli, Dizzee Rascal, Three 6 Mafia, T.I., and Big Daddy Kane. While glittery guest lists are a dime a dozen ...

One Man Band Man
$10.15 It seems like T.I. hasn't gotten any rest since he hit it big with his sophomore release--2003's TRAP MUZIK. With an impressive array of LPs, mixtapes, countless guest spots, and enough industry legwork on his Grand Hustle label in the meantime, the self-proclaimed "King of the South" has been ...

$15.65 The decade following 1992's THE PREDATOR found Ice Cube releasing a handful of mediocre albums (none of which lived up to the standards of his first three solo releases) and devoting his time to other activities (including writing and directing films). But 2006's LAUGH NOW, CRY LATER reminded the world that Cube is still one of the most forceful voices ...
