Missing Piece album
$15.15 Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room ...
| | Mum Finally We Are No One CD (2002)
Missing Piece CD music
$13.15 Múm's first album for Fat Cat -- by no coincidence, the label that also broke fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós -- has all the majestic synths, crackly drum machine percussion, sampled silence, and crystalline vocals you'd expect from the country that produced Björk and Sigur Rós, though with less focus on digital sound than the former and less reliance on drama than the latter. Múm is very interested in the music of sound, but Finally We Are No One never sounds like a difficult record; if it's not the instruments sounding naïve or folksy (in good ways), ...

Missing Piece album
$11.35 Are they the Spice Girls of the classical world or the Tokyo String Quartet of girl-pop? Perhaps a little bit of both. There's no denying that this photogenic female string quartet is oriented for maximum marketability. From their scantily clad, Playboyesque booklet photos to their crafty mixture of classical themes and dance pop, Bond is clearly aiming for a mass audience, perhaps neither that of Britney Spears nor the Kronos Quartet, but some demographic that exists in the vast space between them. Their repertoire is certainly all over the map. SHINE moves rather seamlessly through the hard-rock Middle Easternisms of the Led Zeppelin classic "Kashmir" to Argentinean accordionist Astor ...

Missing Piece songs
$13.95 This is part of Blue Note's Limited Edition Connoisseur series.
BLOWING IN FROM CHICAGO features tenor saxophonist John Gilmore as a co-leader. After this 1957 session, he spent the rest of his career in Sun Ra's band, hardly ever making any albums under his own name. This adversely affected Gilmore's legacy, since his name has largely been overlooked by younger jazz audiences. However, Gilmore's performance here is first-rate, and is matched by fellow tenor sax player Clifford Jordan. Throughout the record, it's apparent that this pairing of like minds is ideal.
Drummer Art Blakey also asserts himself on this album, especially on the highly rhythmic "Billie's Bounce," a Charlie Parker tune he popularized with the Jazz Messengers. The Latin-flavored Jordan original "Bo-Till" is one of BLOWING IN FROM CHICAGO'S highlights, as ...
