(3 Customer Reviews)
Issued nearly three years after the death of Rick James, DEEPER STILL presents tracks that the funk legend had recently completed at the time of his death in 2004. While there are no raucous "Super Freak"-like tunes on this outing, the album does feature James in charmingly pensive R&B/soul mode, as best revealed on the smooth title song and the jazzy "Sapphire." It's sad to think that this might have been the start of a big comeback, but, regardless, DEEPER STILL, with its gentle, easy-going arrangements, is a fine way to remember James. Rick James Deeper Still Songs Deeper Still Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Rick's Last Was Well Done! Glad I did not hesitate to pick this one up earlier this year. James best release in quite a while. Excellent CD start to finish. His song Sapphire is a tribute to the black female and should be known by all. What a great surprise it was after my first listen that James ended on such a strong note. No doubt this was a great comeback album for the Funk legend. Deeper Still Album of the Year Rick left us with a bang! The title song Deeper Still provides us with Rick's voice in top form and the Latin groove in Deeper Still is funky and jazzy if you liked Robin Thick-Lost without you, Deeper Still has more adrenaline easily R&B song of the year.
Guinnevere-Is Dark and Passionate this is a mixture of Jazz/Rock/with a melody of (Send me an angel)goth style mixture, this is a Rick Masterpiece.
Taste-Takes you back to Rick's 80's Mary Jane Girls day's reminding you of the funky sound he made so popular for the Girls, Eddie Murphy and himself/lifestyle!
Sapphire-Is a EP itself this is Rick crooning and funking his way into a Quiet Storm.
Maybe-#1 hit here! Rick on accoustic, this is grammy right here people wake up, the song writing here and arrangements show Rick's true genius and diversity.
Funk wit me-The King of Punk Funk on top of his throne delivering a get down and dirty Funk Anthem.
Overall this album is great and seem's to be overlooked, get you will see what I'm talking about!

Deeper Still album
$6.55 Though Gino Vannelli's third record didn't contain a big hit single like its predecessor, STORM AT SUNUP was a significant step forward artistically. Combining the Stevie Wonder-esque synth textures of POWERFUL PEOPLE with a complex jazz-rock fusion sound and vocal gymnastics occasionally reminiscent of Tim Buckley, the album finds Vannelli at his most musically ambitious. "Mama Coco" sounds like Weather Report jamming with Jamiroquai singer Jason Kay, while "Love is a Night" makes ELP-style keyboard rock sound like pure love-makin' music.

| | Chamillionaire Sound Of Revenge CD (2005) Parental Advisory
Deeper Still CD music
$13.19 With THE SOUND OF REVENGE, Chamillionaire's 2005 Universal debut, the Houston-based rapper makes the most of his major-label deal, which includes his own Chamillitary imprint. On SOR, Paul Wall's former collaborator amps up that duo's signature chopped-and-screwed mixtape sound with heavy-duty arrangements that expertly showcase Chamillionaire's deep, husky voice. The introductory title track is marked by machine-gun beats, and establishes the album's fierce, restless ...

Deeper Still songs
$10.49 David Ruffin's leads landed higher on the charts than Eddie Kendricks when both reigned as the dominant lead singers for the classic Temptations. That reversed when they became solo artists; Kendricks enjoyed a far more successful and consistent career than Ruffin. Ruffin had two major hits: "My Whole World Ended the Moment You Left Me" and "Walk Away From Love" (the exquisite Van McCoy production); the latter didn't make this compilation, which is perplexing because other McCoy productions -- "Everything's Coming up Love," "On and Off," the marvelous "Questions," and "Discover Me" -- did. Purists love Ruffin au naturel and singing in his proper key; examples of this include: "I'm Just a Mortal Man," "Roving Kind," and "The Letter" (an uninteresting, atypical Smokey Robinson song; not the Box Tops' hit), but adding them and not "Walk Away From Love" is ludicrous. But all is not doom and gloom; there are some startling cuts, many unfamiliar to most because they were either album cuts or B-sides. Tunes like "No Matter Where," "The Double Cross," "We'll Have a Good Thing Going On," and the R&B hit "I Lost Everything I Ever Loved" are exciting ...

| | Sammy Davis, Jr. Sings And Laurindo Almeida Plays CD (1966)
Deeper Still CD music
$10.45 Though Sammy Davis Jr. was best known for singing to big band swing sounds (Las Vegas and New York City complemented his exuberance with their innate showbiz glamour), when given the chance he could shine just as well in other musical landscapes. In this CD he's paired with guitarist Laurindo Almeida, performing Brazilian jazz standards.
Almeida's playing is exotic and sensitive, providing a sensual backdrop for Davis' pensive moods. "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" is softly and gently sung, appropriate to ...

Deeper Still songs
$21.09 On paper it seems inexplicable that one could assemble a top-drawer retrospective on Philly soul without drawing on the inimitable Philadelphia International catalog, but The Spirit of Philadelphia is superb in spite of its limitations -- it's by no means a definitive history, mind you, but in resurrecting 18 vintage cuts produced outside of the Gamble/Huff/Bell axis that largely defines the Philly soul output of the 1970s, the disc manages to shed significant new light on the true depth of the City of Brotherly Love's musical heritage. Just because the grooves here don't bear the Philly International copyright doesn't mean they're free of the label's influence, however -- the music is as silky-smooth and ...
