| | Peter Bouffard & Rusty White Contrafactum CD Peter Bouffard & Rusty White Discography of CDs
Peter Bouffard and Rusty White - ContrafactumIn the tradition of some of the great jazz guitar/bass duos such as Jim Hall & Ron Carter, Gene Bertoncini & Michael Moore, and Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden; Peter Bouffard and Rusty White have just completed a collaborative CD entitled: Contrafactum. As the liner notes explain, much of the music on the CD is grounded on a single theme: newly composed melodies based upon the harmony of well known standard songs. The term 'contrafact,' used to describe such a jazz composition, is borrowed from the Latin term 'contrafactum,' which describes the historical process of text substitution in medieval chant repertories. With ten tracks in all, Contrafactum begins with Rusty's composition 'Nervous Sheep,' based on the harmony of Gerswin's 'Embraceable You' (Ewe). There are three new contrafacts composed by Peter. In addition, each player performs a solo piece on the recording. The remaining tracks include a diverse mix of compositions by Jerry Bergonzi, Frederick Chopin, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Mike Stern, all sharing the same underlying concept. While the compositions themselves are intriguing, the duo setting provides an ideal environment for the intimate, conversational improvisations contained in each piece. 'Each of these refreshing gems is exquisitely performed and improvised upon by these two masters, and a joy to behold. '- Gene Bertoncini, internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist'Bouffard and White present fascinating music for jazz connoisseurs. One must listen intently to catch the many harmonic and contrapuntal ingenuities of these duos, but one can also just listen and enjoy the virtuosic performance of good jazz. $14.29 Not all mellow, Houston Person's tribute to the softer side of jazz has its moments based on the laid-back timbre of his soul rather than a program consisting of only ballads. The tenor sax he wields certainly reflects the tradition established by Ben Webster in its soul-drenched tone, but is not as vocally pronounced or vibrato-driven. The quite capable pianist ...

| | Black Lab Technologie CD (2007)
Contrafactum music CDs
$13.15 For the alternative band Black Lab, love lost and found is viewed through a cinematic lens. Like scenes from a movie, songwriter Paul Durham shoots every line like a heartbroken reel. He crafts his words with a poet’s eye, the scenes lit with the radiant light of his yearning, soaring voice. In 1998, Black Lab was signed to Geffen Records and mesmerized modern-rock radio with the haunting singles â€Ĺ"Wash It Away” and â€Ĺ"Time Ago,” both Top-40 hits on alternative rock and pop formats. The group’s intelligent, heartfelt lyrics and wide-screen guitar attack had them compared to U2. Radio programmers hailed the band as the Next Big Thing. Contributions to soundtracks followed as their moody, passionate vocals and sweeping guitars landed on the soundtracks of Can’t Hardly Wait, Varsity Blues, Permanent Midnight, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Unfortunately, on the cusp of world domination, their label went out of business, leaving the band’s dreams in disarray. In 2002, Black Lab found themselves on the soundtrack of Spider-Man, opening another chapter for the band -- or at least for Durham, who produced the band's second album, See the Sun, with new guitarist Andy Ellis. Born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, Durham was the mad scientist behind Black Lab from ...

$9.29 Trumpeter Daimon Brunton describes the sound of his new album Unlimited-Slip Diff as 'pop melodies with funky beats and jazz harmonies' in the upbeat style of Grover Washington Jr or Freddie Hubbard, with, 'a few Clifford Brown licks thrown in'.Having played for eleven years at most of Melbourne's venues, The Daimon Brunton Quartet is one of the city's most hard-working and popular small jazz groups. Their 2003 CD, Never Again Such Beauty, was available only at gigs and was a hit with the group's many loyal fans. Unlimited Slip-Diff explores new directions made possible by fusing jazz harmonies with funk and hip-hop grooves. Eleven of the twelve numbers are original compositions or original arrangements and four tracks utilize two drummers simultaneously. The two covers/arrangements of the Flintstones Theme and the Sesame Street Theme are smokin' groove driven charts that will have your toe tapping instantly. The Sesame Street ...

Contrafactum album
$16.45 Like flies on a 3-bean salad, Nashville is buzzing about JR & the Roadkill Choir and their collection of original, irreverent, country-flavored songs. After you hear their tender love ballads 'You're too Ugly to be Cheatin' on Me' and 'I'm Drinkin' You Beautiful', or the relationship-ending 'I'm Not Drunk Enough to Dance', or the desperate housewife's anthem 'No Man Was Ever Shot Washin' the Dirty Dishes', you'll understand how they have earned the reputation as one of the funniest bands in Nashville. Most everything you need to know about front man JR can be found stuck to the floor mats of his brown 1970 Vista Cruiser station wagon...except, maybe, his favorite songwriting influences which include: Jim Croce, ...
