Anyone who has seen this Emcee live or heard his material should understand the height of his caliber. His first effort on wax surfaced in 2000 on Yeshua Da PoED’S label Head Bop Music. But Sub-Conscious began his apprenticeship to lyricism way earlier than that, and to say the least, he is truly dedicated to his craft. This Brooklyn born, Manhattan raised Emcee came on to the rap scene during De La’s daisy age and witnessed the birth of all types of styles from Heiro to Wu-Tang. He began trying his hand at it in1992 with three friends in High school. Through ciphers after class and countless demo songs the foursome joined forces to form the crew Sight Beyond Light. During these years his experiences with lyricism as well as spoken word and poetry influenced him to become diligent with writing. But it was his crew’s debut full length “Full Spectrum Analysis” (released on Low Tech Records in “97”) that convinced Sub-Conscious to pursue Hip-Hop music seriously.Sub- began making his presence known in NYC’s underground circuit in “95”. Once he got comfortable with some stage presence in “97” he began on the quest every Emcee trying to make a name for himself without catalog embarks on…to become a battle champion. He won a handful of local battles in “98” then stepped up to become the only three-time champion of NY’S most elite battle at the time called “Braggin’ Writes”.He won it in both NY and Philly. He took L’s at the Blaze Battle in “99” and Scribble Jam “00” but the publicity still served him well. In “01” he won End of the Weak’s “Challenge of Champions” which is the Emcee’s strong man competition with five categories to be judged in. This year he became the only New York Emcee to ever make it to the finals of Boston’s “Super Bowl Battle”. The wars he waged created the buzz he was looking for and lucky for him he knew battling was only the first stepping stone on the climb to becoming a respected Emcee. He says it was his Loss at the Blaze Battle that helped him re-focus.Soon after the debut single “Pushin’ Orbitz” was released in “00” Sub- released another single with SBL called “New Beginnings” on Low Tech. His solo effort landed in the hands of DJ Logic’s manager and earned him a spot on an album called “The Anomaly” on Rope-a-dope records. Later that landed him 10 gigs on the west coast leg of Logic’s tour. He dropped a verse on Blowout’s “Verses vs. Beats” and also did the theme joint to the Angels and Insects project that dropped last year. Since then he has collaborated with the likes of The Dub pistols in London, DJ Spier and Oktober, Breezly Bruin from Juggaknots and others. Also “Lyric Luverz DELUXE!!!/The Deep Dish Thesis” on Low Tech. Bobbito Garcia released the first single off the project on his new label Fruitmeat. His most current projects ''The holdoverz" and "sub talk" released in 2006 are a must for any Hip Hop lovers.Sub-Conscious has a presence and a style that truly brings something unique to the table. His skills on wax have escalated relentlessly and his future projects are definitely worth watching for.
