Few debut singles in the history of rock & roll have had the immediate and overwhelming impact of The Byrds' version of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man." Marrying a Beatles-like electric jangle to Dylan's insight and folky melody (in many ways, breaking Dylan into the pop market), it not only forecast the band's influence on the future of pop music but reestablished an American rock & roll presence in the face of the British Invasion. The album ...
| | David Gilmour CD (1978) Remastered
Standing Room Only CD music
$6.79 Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Standing Room Only CD music
$20.29 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's ...

$13.15 | | Need New Body UFO CD (2003)
Standing Room Only songs
$12.95 Catchy, bouncy, and just downright fun to listen to, but at the same time abrasive, jarring, and frequently toeing the line of obnoxiousness, Need New Body is nothing if not unpredictable. They exist in an as yet unnamed category almost all their own: some sort of spazz-folk created with banjos, eight-bit video game consoles, junkyard percussion, absurd ranting, and campfire chanting. UFO, their second album, is much like their first in that you can expect the unexpected at each turn. The spontaneity keeps you listening just to hear what they'll try next. And even when they flop, you can't help but admire the sheer enthusiasm poured into even the most obviously tossed-off, half-baked experiments. One of these half-baked experiments comes right at the beginning of UFO. As if to weed out the weak and unadventurous, "Gigglebush Meets CompUSA" starts with an off-balance beat like a hippo trying to walk a balance beam, then disintegrates into the grating death rattle of some insectoid robot sent from the near future. Few bands would be so brave (some ...
| | Mississippi Heat Thunder In My Heart CD (2003)
Standing Room Only album
$20.29 THUNDER IN MY HEART was released in 1995. This is the band's third CD. The sound quality and song material is particularly good here. So is the inspiration from all the band members - Deitra Farr on vocals, and the same musicians as in LEARNED THE HARD WAY (1994). By this time the band was tight and well rehearsed. An exciting set of 14 original tunes! THUNDER IN MY HEART marks the first time bass man Bob Stroger records his singing voice (a cover tune called "Loan Me Train Fare" with additional lyrics from Bob, and one written for him by Pierre Lacocque called "Don't Dare Call"). ************Here is what the critics say:PRESS REACTION/REVIEWSTHUNDER IN MY HEART« MISSISSIPPI HEAT provides the next best thing to a time machine. »- SYRACUSE NEWS TIMES« Deitra Farr sings with convincing passion throughout the mostly original program, and Lacocque’s imaginative harmonica lines always seem to be exactly in the right places, whether he’s flying in a full-blown solo or simply adding a flavorful fill. Stroger and Kirk are as steady a rhythm section as you’re likely to find in these parts, but the real key to MISSISSIPPI HEAT’s swinging style may be the marvelous interplay between guitarists Wheeler and Flynn. They trade licks and alternate rhythm patterns in a manner reminiscent of Chess Records’ sidemen The Aces and later, Robert Jr. Lockwood and Luther tucker in the 50’s. MISSISSIPPI HEAT proves that contemporary blues can be played with power and conviction without resorting to the kind of rock histrionics practiced by many of today’s so-called blues bands. THUNDER IN MY HEART is ...
