Theta is a studio organization comprised of 5 members as follows: 1. Nelson Thall: Drums 2. Matthew Pasquale: Bass3. Noah Pantel: Keyboard 4. Henry Thall: Lead Guitar 5. Noah Giffin: Guitar / Vocals We are a Toronto based group of multi-faceted individuals influenced by a wide range of artists; for example (and only to name a few): Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Radiohead, Jaga Jazzist, Stravinski, Bela Fleck, Mike Oldfield, Rush, Liquid Tension Experiment and Sigur Ros. Creatively, we drift more towards the progressive, ambient, avant garde genres, and we often incorporate thematic and conceptual material in the music we produce. We, though, are not confined to such boundaries and also endeavor to write in all forms of music to extend our boundaries personally and to contribute to the flow of the artform. ----------------- Through The Vanishing Point Music Theta Through The Vanishing Point Songs | 1. | The Way We Are |

$9.35 Upstate New York can be a lonely place. Somewhere between the Pennsylvanian border and the Finger Lakes the seasoned traveler comes to the realization that he has entered into the mouth of H.P. Lovecraft's New England, and are at the mercy of the pines -- Ithaca's Boy With a Fish's debut record is that trip's soundtrack. Guitarist/songwriter Jeff Claus and violinist Judy Hyman have been mining the rich veins of the region's sepia-toned melancholy since the 1980s as members of the eclectic bluegrass/ Gothic-folk-rock outfit the Horseflies, and Birds Fly Backwards revisits many of the themes and styles that made their previous incarnation so invigorating -- "People Go Under" was originally released instrumentally as the main theme on the Horseflies soundtrack to Where the Rivers Flow North. Although Hyman's manic fiddling is more refined here, and Claus' spooky banjo is nowhere to be found, the 12 songs embrace the duo's long history of innovative arrangements and minor-chord majesty with an elegance that's both chilly and heartwarming. The beautiful opener, "Sometimes," is like a walk through an abandoned main street. It's deceptive simplicity aches with a lethal combination of nostalgia and regret, warmed only by the toasty glow of Rick Hansen's accordion. "Plastic Raincoat" inhabits the murky netherworld between the end credits to a horror film and a bonfire singalong, lurching like a midnight prowler against a rhythm section that somehow manages to fuse backwoods roots-rock with reggae. Lyrically, Claus is fascinated by imagery, and his stream-of-consciousness delivery makes lines like "Violins and gasoline\walk on water in between" resonate for no other reason than his conviction of their undeniable truth -- that the band plays like a single organism doesn't hurt either. Observational tales of neighborhood loneliness ("Out Into the Empty") and irreverent narratives about aging ("Glasses") carry beneath them a sense of deep emotional attachment that makes their bittersweet protagonists all the more poignant. When Claus sings "I've got pencils and matches in my pockets for you/I write you notes, then I burn them and send them to you" on the gorgeous "Red Sparrow Bridge," the arc of Birds Fly Backwards' loneliness is rendered complete, leaving ...

$14.79 ALBUM NOTESThis CD was a pleasure to create. It is truly wonderful to be an independent artist who composes, performs and produces original works. Many of the tunes on this recording had been “kicking around in my head” for many years. I first performed “Children’s Song”, “Cinderella”, “Island Blues” and “Passion Dance” at a benefit concert for Native Americans at Riverside Church in NY City about six years ago. “Circus” was composed in about 10 minutes. The composition borrows some of the compositional techniques of one of my favorite composers, J.S. Bach. The two part writing lends itself particularly well to finger style guitar. “The Jig is up” has a definite Celtic flavor. It was composed about a year ago when I was planning a concert tour of the Emerald Isle, England and Scotland. “Jimi” is a tribute to my all time favorite solid body electric guitarist Jimi Hendrix. “Melancholy” is all about the struggle most musicians face between beauty and poverty! “Spanish Phrases” is an improvisation which encompasses many of the rhythmic, harmonic and form related compositional devices traditional “Spanish” composers employ in their compositions. “Ballad” defines what it means to mature as a musician, i.e., you are no longer afraid to leave space between your musical ideas. “Waterfall” is the oldest composition on this CD. The work originally was intended for an ensemble. The concept originated from a trip to Smokey Mountain National Park in 1995.BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATIONDavid Doig first began playing the guitar in 1964 at the age of 8. Like many children of that generation, I wanted to be a “rock star”. Throughout Jr. High and High school I performed with many rock and jazz ensembles. In 1973 I attended a summer evaluation clinic at the Berklee College of Music. Out of 800 applicants I attained ...
