$9.29 This action-horror film is set in ancient Romania and stars Kristianna Loken (TERMINATOR 3) as Rayne, a half-human/half-vampire sworn to kill her evil tyrant vampire father (Ben Kingsley). Michael Madsen, Michelle Rodriguez, and Matthew Davis play a trio of vampire hunters who ally themselves with Rayne. Based on a video game, this film earns its R-rating by offering a lot more blood, gore, and nudity--and less CGI effects--than most of its modern vamp contemporaries. With all its swords, chained breasts, gushing arteries, and severed heads, BLOODRAYNE seems more like a welcome throwback to those great early 1980s drive-in sword and sorcery flicks. In between the slashing and gouging there are torch-lit castles, nefarious booby traps, blurry flashbacks, and aerial camera shots that swoop down through the gorgeous Carpathian landscapes. Loken, with her fangs and low-rider leather chaps, looks pretty gorgeous herself, and there's a surprising number of name actors in bit parts, ...

Bloodhound: The Vampire Gigolo - Vol. 2 film
$9.99 Former porn director Gregory Dark's contemporary B-movie gorefest has all the necessary trappings to leave genre fans satisfied, and others slightly nauseous. The scene is set when a group of juvenile delinquents arrive at a roach-infested ruin of a hotel, where they have agreed to work in exchange for lighter sentences. They are led by a cop who lost his hand four years ago in a struggle with a brutal serial killer whom he killed with a bullet to the head--or so he thought. Now, the very same hulking monster, played by WWE wrestler Kane, haunts the halls of the dilapidated hotel, and with no further adieu begins picking off the teenagers one by one. He metes out his own brand of justice: having been taught as a child by his punishingly Christian mother that the eyes--the windows to the soul--must be cleaned to please God, he gouges out the eyes of each of his victims. The camera does not shy away from this or any other terifically squirm-inducing action, while the hyperkinetic ...

Bloodhound: The Vampire Gigolo - Vol. 2 review
$14.45 Though it's spawned a handful of sequels, it took more than 30 years for Tobe Hooper's ever-potent horror classic to get an "origin" story. Why is Leatherface so angry? Whose face does he wear as a mask? How did his family get their taste for human flesh? A 2003 remake revisited the original film, painted with post-millenial gloss by former music video director Marcus Nispel. For his second feature, director Jonathan Liebesman (DARKNESS FALLS) follows suit, though wisely ...

$10.29 Thai horror maestros Oxide and Danny Pang follow up their hit 2002 film with a sequel that equals the chills and creepy mise-en-scene of the first. Qi Shu (MILLENIUM MAMBO) stars as Joey Cheng, a troubled young woman who is pregnant with the child of the boyfriend who just dumped her. On holiday in Bangkok, she makes a suicide attempt in her hotel room, but is foiled by her wake-up call. Something was altered in her close contact with death, however, and returning home to Hong Kong, the realization slowly dawns on Joey that the wraith-like people she now sees everywhere are actually deceased. This knowledge does not sit well with ...
