| | Spyro Gyra Good To Go-Go CD Spyro Gyra Discography of CDs
While hardcore jazz purists wince at a mere mention of them, the long-established fusion/smooth jazz combo Spyro Gyra continue spinning easygoing grooves for their fans. With their 27th album (not even counting collections), Spyro Gyra up the ante by adding some tasty world-music rhythms. By juggling the sparkling Caribbean steel drums of Andy Narrell, dancehall, mainstream reggae, and Spanish flamenco, they come up with the exhilarating panorama "Jam Up." The band plays with extra fire and spunk throughout without ever sacrificing their flair for bright, sunshine-y melodies and soulful soloing.

Purchase Good To Go-Go CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Steve Cole Ny La CD (2003)
Good To Go-Go album
$9.09 Burgeoning smooth jazz superstar Steve Cole continues to bridge the gap between pop-jazz and classic R&B on his third studio album, NY LA. Featuring strong melodic statements and truly funky keyboards via the likes of Brian Culbertson and Marquis "Hami" Dair, NY LA is a moody and solid affair. From the disco-influenced "Off Broadway," which harkens back to the best work of the Crusaders, to the Donald Byrd-esque "Interlude IV," tenor saxophonist Cole deftly crosses the boundary from jazz soloist to R&B heavyweight. More Grover Washington, Jr. than Kenny G., Cole manages to keep things organic and simple -- despite the use of programmed drum beats and synthesizers -- a lesson some of his contemporaries could learn. Also adding depth are the vocal tracks featuring the crisply soulful Mauli B., whose star-making performance on "Every Little Thing" is ...
| | George Benson Irreplaceable CD (2004)
Good To Go-Go CD music
$11.35 In the public eye as a recording artist since the early 1960s, guitarist/vocalist George Benson is arguably the man who injected the "smooth" into smooth jazz. IRREPLACEABLE artfully treads the border between contemporary R&B and smooth jazz, thanks in no small part to producer/songwriter Joshua Paul Thompson. A couple of ...
| | Steve Oliver 3-D CD (2004)
Good To Go-Go music CDs
$14.79 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, Oliver digs deep into a rich variety of influences for a multifaceted romp through the worlds of pop, jazz, urban/hip-hop, worldbeat, Brazilian, and Latin music. While focusing as always on his classic acoustic guitar and brilliant "vocalese" to convey the lead melodies on the instrumentals, he stretches into edgier blues territory with his lesser-heard electric on "In the Shade of Cool." Joining all-star guests like Fourplay drummer Harvey Mason (who adds his gentle rhythmic touch to the lush romantic atmospheres of the title track) and saxophonist Eric Marienthal (soulful harmony on the lilting ballad "She's Got the Way-O," ...
| | Jeff Kashiwa Peace Of Mind CD (2004)
Good To Go-Go songs
$12.39 Jeff Kashiwa has a fluent if generic style on soprano, alto, and tenor, which fits perfectly into the "feel good" smooth music that he performs on "Peace of Mind." The 11 selections clock in between 3:46 and 5:14 and were clearly recorded with hopes of getting maximum radio airplay. Kashiwa's rhythm section is effective if anonymous (despite the presence of Brian Bromberg on bass) with the focus being almost entirely on the leader's melodic playing. While the music is lightly grooving and mildly soulful and Kashiwa plays well, no surprises occur and this set never rises above the level of pleasant background music. ~ Scott Yanow

| | Brian Culbertson It's On Tonight CD (2005)
Good To Go-Go album
$11.99 With its seething, laid-back funk beats and steamy lyrics full of obvious references to romantic trysts, it doesn't get any sexier than Brian Culbertson's IT'S ON TONIGHT. A number of prominent crossover jazz artist lend their talents here. For example, the downtempo title track features a sensual R&B vocal from singer Will Downing. Later, saxophonist Boney James' mellifluous lines become the focus of "The Way You Feel." On "Secret Affair," relative newcomer Chris Botti plays Miles Davis-influenced riffs over a spacious one-chord vamp (and his use of a Harmon mute creates that smoky, late-night effect).
Kirk Whalum's silky tenor saxophone beautifully complements Patti Austin's soulful voice on "Love Will Never Let You Down," a seductive ballad about ...

Good To Go-Go songs
$16.55 Probably more than any of her contemporaries with whom she is most often compared, Sarah Vaughan's voice not only survived the vicissitudes of years of performing, but matured remarkably well. Her performance at this concert assured all that she could still go from bluesy growls through crystal clarity to sounding cute at the higher range. The Paris concert turned out ...

| | Steve Lacy One More Time CD (2005)
Good To Go-Go music CDs
$14.39 This album was recorded live in July 2002, as part of Steve Lacy's "farewell" tour of Belgium, before he moved back to the United States. Joëlle Léandre was among the few musicians the saxophonist selected as partners for this ten-date event, and One More Time should provide all the proofs necessary to those who still don't understand why. Yes, the soprano sax and double bass form an unlikely pair, and yes, Lacy and Léandre come from very different backgrounds and approach free improvisation from separate paths, but why should any of that matter? In fact, the unusual instrumentation opens up a wide range of colors and expressions -- and these two sure know how to draw the best from such an opportunity -- and different approaches translate to a wider common vocabulary whenever ...
