Personnel: Jimmy Ponder (guitar). Guitarist Jimmy Ponder has lent his rich tone and soulful six-string wizardry to over 80 jazz recordings (plus over a dozen more as a band leader). This rare solo recording captures a particularly hot live date at the Other End, where Ponder's unique interpretations of standards like "All the Things You Are" and "Stella by Starlight" swing with heartfelt zest. | Live At The Other End Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Truly a Classic! Years ago I sat in fairly regularly on off nights at a jazz club in West Paterson, NJ, called "Gulliver's." I happened upon Jimmy Ponder there one night -- I think he was auditioning for a gig, which I'm sure he got because he's an absolute master of the guitar.
Only years later did I reconnect with him by way of his recordings, and honestly, this guy is a great, great guitarist who, for whatever reason, really hasn't gotten the acclaim of many of his peers, but trust me, he's probably the very finest of the lot. A true artist, a true master, and a beautiful, beautiful, soulful player.
He combines Wes Montgomery's kind of chordal approach moving up and down the neck of the guitar with rapid linear runs, and has a beautiful, subtle, nuanced approach to a song. You need only listen to his beautifully understated "Spartacus Love Theme" on one of his other CDs to realize you are in the presence of greatness here.
This "Other End" recording is absolutely the finest Ponder I've ever heard. It is an ABSOLUTE MUST if you love jazz guitar, or treasure jazz in general. This kind of artistry restores one's faith in humanity. Submitted by Ron (Rutherford, NJ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Live At The Other End
$13.65 Live at the House of Tribes documents trumpeter Wynton Marsalis performing with his sextet at the intimate community theater space in New York City on December 15, 2002. Apparently an annual ritual of sorts for Marsalis, the performance makes for one of his best live recordings since 1986's stellar Live at Blues Alley. Backed by a slightly altered lineup from his 2005 Blue Note studio debut, The Magic Hour, Marsalis gains first-class support from ...

Live At The Other End
$34.29 BiographyKAREN LANE has worked as a professional singer for 15 years in contemporary styles ranging from soul and pop through to blues and jazz. Prior to embarking on her singing career she graduated with a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy in Perth, Western Australia. She moved to Sydney in 1991 and, whilst working as a speech therapist and singing teacher, sang in various jazz bands and soul outfits. With her own band, Substance, she debuted at the Sydney International Festival’s celebrated Bacardi club in 1994. Other singing highlights in Australia have included performing at the Basement (supporting Julian Joseph) Melbourne International Arts Festival and Go Girl! Festival, celebrating International Women’s Day in the Domain, Sydney.Since moving to London, Karen has focused on singing jazz and has established a considerable following. With the release of two successful albums “Once in a Lifetime” in 2002 and “Taste” in 2004, she has received rave reviews and airplay on Jazz FM, London Live, and BBC Radio2. For 5 years she worked in the music department of the City Literary Institute for adult learning in Covent Garden, teaching “Find Your Voice” and jazz singing. She has continued to develop her teaching business, and now works primarily as a private vocal coach. It is unusual to find a vocal coach with such a range of anatomical knowledge and understanding of the science behind how the voice works. Her experience as a speech language therapist gives her a unique perspective from which to teach singing, and this, combined with her professional experience as a singer, gives her a clear insight into the difficulties singers face with regard to protecting, maintaining and refining their instrument.Meet Karen at www.singsing.co.ukTestimonials"This is an exciting new course for ALL singers. It will improve your vocal technique and sharpen your agility, as well as working on your understanding of theory and harmony - while most importantly developing your ears. No matter what level or style of singer you are, this course is full of challenges."Trudy Kerr (Professional singer, & vocal tutor at Trinity College of Music, London)"I LOVE your vocal workouts... Live At The Other End
$11.99 The Jealous Girlfriends: Josh Abbott , Holly Miranda, Mike Fadem, Alex Lipsen. Personnel: Dan Long (guitar); Jon Natchez (saxophone). On their second, self-titled album, the Jealous Girlfriends are nothing if not versatile -- and sometimes, almost too versatile for their own sake. Their debut Comfortably Uncomfortable captured the band just after Josh Abbott joined the existing duo of Holly Miranda and Alex Lipsen; Lipsen and Miranda's wistful pop sound dominated that album, so Abbott's contributions as the Girlfriends' other singer and songwriter only begin to ...
