Bob Mintzer Source CD

Saxophonist Bob Mintzer, aka "Papa Lips," has led jazz bands of varying sizes, but he is perhaps most dazzling in a small-group setting, as on this 1983 outing. In the company of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, equally renowned trumpeter Randy Brecker, and a host of other guest stars representing the best of the early-'80s fusion scene, Mintzer holds his ground and leads the way through a series of lively, intelligent tracks: the silky fusion of "Late Night with You," the swinging trad jazz of "Mr. Fone Bone," and the bouncy Latin number "I Don't Know."
