In Memphis, struggling young attorney Rudy Baylor (Matt Damon) joins a shady law firm headed by Bruiser Stone (Mickey Rourke). After the firm comes under investigation, Rudy and fellow employee Deck Schifflet (Danny DeVito) start their own practice. While trying to dig up clients, Rudy meets a young spousal abuse victim, Kelly Riker (Claire Danes), and convinces her to leave her husband (Andrew Shue). But Rudy's biggest case is defending a young man (Johnny Whitworth) dying of leukemia and his mother (Mary Kay Place) against the insurance company who wrongfully denied their claim. Rudy and Deck find that their opposing lawyers, led by Leo Drummond (Jon Voight), have bugged their offices. Despite his inexperience, Rudy cleverly manages to get an undesirable juror (musician Randy Travis in a cameo role) removed from the jury. During testimony Rudy uncovers proof that the insurance company has a practice of denying all claims. As his relationship with Kelly takes a dangerous turn and the trial uncovers more insurance fraud, it seems Rudy must decide between being a good man or being a good lawyer. John Grisham's novel comes to life in Francis Ford Coppola's courtroom drama pitting the little guy against a large corporation. Rudy Baylor (Matt Damon), an inexperienced Memphis lawyer, and his legal sidekick, Deck Schifflet (Danny DeVito), defend a leukemia victim against an insurance company and its hotshot lawyer Leo Drummond (Jon Voight). Along the way Rudy befriends an abused woman (Claire Danes), helping her escape her husband (Andrew Shue). The courtroom scenes between Damon and Voight are the highlight of this legal yarn as Rudy learns the tough price of being a good lawyer. Rainmaker Reviews: "...The film's visual solemnity is undercut by a healthy streak of cynicism, and at times -- a rare thing for Coppola -- it's even funny…"
-- Philip Kemp, Sight and Sound "...[Voight] steals the show...with one of the most enjoyable performances of his career..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...A parade of colorful performances from a constantly surprising cast....Mr. Coppola's best and sharpest film in years..."
-- Janet Maslin, New York Times "...[Coppola] has made the most of Grisham's ground-level realism....DeVito's role is in the fading tradition of the star character actor..."
-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times 4 stars out of 5 -- "Razor sharp, with some great performances, this is as entertaining as it is intelligent."-- Nikki Baughan, Ultimate DVD Rainmaker | List Price | $12.98 (You save $4.29) | | Studio | Paramount Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 1997 | | DVD Encoding | Region 1 | | All Time Sales Rank | 24285 | | CD Universe Part number | 7426763 | | Catalog number | 122394 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jul 24, 2007 | | Rating | PG-13 (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for a strong beating and elements of emotional abuse | | Also Known As | John Grisham's The Rainmaker | | Running Time | 135 Minutes | | Additional Info | Collector's Edition; Special Edition; Dubbed; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Color; Collector's Edition; Special Edition; Dubbed; Subtitled; Widescreen |

$9.69 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.
Gifted med student Ted Grey (Milo Ventimiglia, HEROES) arrives at a major Washington, D.C., as an intern, where he is met with suspicion and resentment by the tightly knit group of fellow young pathologists-in-training. Soon, though, Ted is accepted into their circle---where they each take turns committing a murder so that the others may prove their mettle by figuring out the cause of death and celebrate with drug-fueled orgies among the dead bodies in the hospital. Things change for Ted, though, when his law student fiancée, Gwen (Alyssa Milano), moves to the city and helps to scare him straight. Soon, crazed Wallace Stevens-quoting leader Jake Gallo (Michael Weston) turns on Ted, putting both Ted's and Gwen's ...

$11.29 Will Smith is a father struggling to take care of his young son in this touching tale based on a true story. In San Francisco circa 1981, Chris Gardner's (Smith) luck has run out. A bad business investment, a bevy of parking tickets, and back taxes in addition to rent, childcare, and groceries keep him constantly scrambling for cash. Chris thinks his luck is changing when he is accepted into a highly competitive internship program at a brokerage firm. But the internship is unpaid and soon, despite his best efforts, Chris and his five-year old son, Christopher (Jaden Christopher Syre Smith--Will Smith's real life son), find themselves homeless. Chris might spend his days training to invest and make millions, but he and Christopher spend their nights in shelters and public transportation stations.
Gardner's story is a testament not only to the love between a father and son, but also to the strength of the human spirit. Will Smith turns in a fine, nuanced performance as a man determined to protect his son and make a life for himself and his family. Jaden Smith is an adorable scene-stealer as young Christopher. The real-life ...

$7.99 John Ford distills a quartet of plays from the early career of Eugene O'Neill--BOUND EAST FOR CARDIFF, THE LONG VOYAGE HOME, THE ZONE, and THE MOON OF THE CARIBEES--into a stark, fatalistic group portrait of lonely seafaring men. During World War II, the crew of the tramp steamer Glencairn enjoys a final night of carousing in the West Indies before shipping out to pick up a load of dynamite in Baltimore. Among them are the young, good-natured Ole Olsen (John Wayne), saving his pay to buy a small farm in his native Sweden; paternal Irishman Driscoll (Thomas Mitchell); and tortured English aristocrat Smitty (Ian Hunter). After stowing the explosives in Baltimore, the crew is on edge, fearful that rough seas might detonate their volatile cargo. They're also concerned about the increasingly isolated Smitty, who they believe may be signaling the Nazis. The favorite film ...
