Purchase Darklands CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Alice Cooper Love It To Death CD (1971) Gold
Darklands album
$19.10 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH introduced the world to the heavy sound that Cooper would soon be taking to the top. With the invaluable production assistance of future Pink Floyd/Lou Reed cohort Bob Ezrin, LOVE IT TO DEATH proved Alice Cooper's ...
| | Joe Walsh Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get CD (1973) Gold
Darklands CD music
$19.10 "Rocky Mountain Way," the tune that opens Joe Walsh's sophomore release (and remains one of his best-known songs), is a textbook example of Walsh's strengths. The song is driven by a slinky hard rock groove that boasts crunchy, distorted guitars, barrelhouse piano, wiry solos, and a catchy, singalong chorus--proving Walsh's penchant for mixing rock elements and radio-ready accessibility with a sense of wit and fun. The rest of SMOKER YOU DRINK, PLAYER YOU GET follows suit, with the mid-tempo rock ballad "Bookends," the bouncy, Latin-tinged ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Darklands music CDs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily toward the texture, but he can't resist a good, tight melody and builds the bulk of Battle Studies upon them: the elegant "Half of My Heart," the softly soulful "Perfectly Lonely." Here, Mayer is effortlessly seductive and somewhat irresistible, and it's easy to see why the ladies love cool John. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Darklands songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | John Deacon Deacon John Live At The 1994 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival CD (2005)
Darklands music CDs
$18.99 Deacon John is a true talent. And a showman of the highest caliber. When the Deacon decides it's time to take you to the church of New Orleans blues and R&B... gentlemen take your hats off, and ladies put your hats on, and hold on to them tight! Cuz baby... listen to me now... he's gonna make the wind blow, make you shout and shimmy and shake yo' money maker!Deacon John carries on the musical legacy of his family and the musical heritage of New Orleans, Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta; the sounds of Memphis soul and Texas swing. His music and his performances reflect and convey a knowledge, understanding and deep respect for historical and regional musical influences. His music encompasses elements of gospel, traditional jazz, and New Orleans rhythm and blues. And when he gets down to the blues... the meanest slide guitar since Elmore James and Robert Johnson roamed the Delta. Often described as New Orleans' best kept secret, Deacon John is the unsung hero of New Orleans blues and R&B. In those heady New Orleans R&B years of the late fifties and early sixties Deacon John recorded as part of Allen Toussaint's Minit Records studio band on such memorable hits as "Mother-in-Law," "Lipstick Traces," "Ruler of My Heart," "Fortune Teller," "I Like It Like That," "Land of a Thousand Dances," "Ride Your Pony," "Workin' in a Coal Mine," Robert Parker's "Barefootin'," Aaron Neville's "Tell It Like It Is," and the list goes on.During those seminal years, Deacon John and his band, The Ivories, performed regularly at such legendary New Orleans clubs as the Dew Drop Inn, the Pimlico Club, the Hi-Hat, Club Tijuana and Club Desire. They performed at the big dance halls like the Blue Eagle, the San Jacinto and the Les Jeunes Amis, the ILA Hall on Claiborne Avenue, the old Laborers Union Hall and the Wonderful Boys Hall. Deacon John came up with, and was influenced during those years by, those within the talented legendary circle of New Orleans guitar players like Earl King, Prince La Pa, Papoose Nelson, Roy Montrell, Snooks Eaglin, George Davis, Edgar Blanchard and Justin Adams. Deacon John and the Ivories claim as alumni such well-known and noted musicians as Sammy Berfect, Willie Tee, Earl Turbinton, Zigaboo Modeliste, James Booker, ...
