When Peter Gabriel left Genesis in the mid 1970s to pursue a solo career, drummer Phil Collins was moved to vocals and the band continued to release influential albums of smart, complex, progressive rock. This deluxe 12-disc box set focuses on the band's albums from this period and up through the early '80s (when they began to produce more pop-oriented material), making it a definitive portrait of the band at one of its many creative peaks.
But while the original music is crucial, it's only one of several draws of 1976-1982. Each album features crisply remastered sound, allowing the sophistication of the arrangements and the quality of the musicianship to truly pop. Moreover, each album is paired with a DVD featuring a 5.1 audio mix and extra video material, including interviews, promo videos, and live footage. Additionally, there is a bonus disc of singles, rarities, and B-sides, as well as a lavish, 48-page, photo-packed book. This beautifully assembled box is a must for Genesis fans, and a great way for casual fan to delve into one of the band's most fruitful periods.
This set of 6 CD/DVD sets of studio albums covers the period in the band's career from the late 70s through the early 80s when Phil Collins took over lead vocals plus drumming and songwriting. This boxed set includes albums A Trick Of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering, ...And Then There Were Three..., Duke, and Abacab, with extra remixes in 5.1 Digital DTS. Other extras include music videos, new band member interviews, tour programs, and live footage.

Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Post Gabriel Classics I am a true "Gabriel Years" Genesis fan but considering the talent comes from more than one musician, the group continued to put out classics that now enjoyed more than ever with these remixes. There are sounds to some songs that are more apparent on these remixes than they were on the original LP/CD recordings. Along with the excellent selection of extra tracks, this set was worth money and I have yet to enjoy the 5.1 DVD audio mixes...but then I already have listened to the SACD versions and still lie down in the low light room to listen to some great recordings. Refreshing!!! I would agree that the bass is a bit shallow but I've never heard anything so audibly clear. You don't have to read the lyrics, they're so bright you can hear them! You know, ever since they came out with the compact disc format they've never gotten it quite right. But I'll say this much! You'll never hear Hackett's guitar or Banks keyboards more clearly than on the first two cds; and let's face it, the true Genesis fan is really interested in that first and foremost whomever is on vocals beit Collins or Gabriel. Peter Gabriel didn't make Genesis, nor did Collins, Banks and Hackett did the same way Steve Rother keeps Marillion on top whether it's Fish or Hogarth on vocals! Genesis is all about the great musicians, the vocalists, well...anyone could do lead vocals with that kind of talent! Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Worth waiting for! I avoided purchasing these albums on CD for years, as many were unhappy with the sound quality of the Genesis remasters. Therefore, I cannot compare these to the earlier versions, but I have to say I think the sound quality is very good. The discs sound like they were recorded yesterday, not 30 years ago. The 5.1 DTS mixes sound big, bright, and full. The sound quality on the DVD bonus material (at least what I have sampled so far) is also excellent. A Musical Orgasm An absolutely fantastic listening experience. Glorious compositions in lush surround sound. I love a lot of music in many genres, but this set is probably the epitome of listening bliss. Can't wait for the follow-up sets. Submitted by psifiusc (Portland, OR) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing remixes These albums benefit from Nick Davis and Tony Banks giving them a facelift. All songs are fuller sounding and it's amazing. This is a treat. Do yourself a favor and pick this boxset up. It's so well done. Submitted by Rob (Upstate, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
