Addicted To The Hustle album
$15.05 2005's THE FOUNDATION marks the return of Houston, TX kings of controversy the Geto Boys, and reunites all three longstanding members--Scarface, Willie D., and Bushwick Bill--after nearly a decade. The record stays true to the complex, conflicted, horror-drenched world the trio conjured up in its early days, with the music recalling the group's heyday of stark albums such as WE CAN'T BE STOPPED. There's a wisdom in the Geto Boys sticking to beats virtually unaltered since the late1980s; considering that their style informed most of the sounds coming out of the South in the early 2000s, it comes across as more princely than dated.
Part of the threesome's genius lies in the ability to shift from the darkest scenes of graphic violence to moments of absolute silliness, exemplified by the first two tunes of THE FOUNDATION, the uncompromising "Declaration of War" and playful single "Yes, Yes, Y'All." For all of their schizophrenic fire, the Geto Boys are also good at exploring the flawed features of their own minds with a disarming tenderness, and both "I ...

| | Andy Statman Jewish Klezmer Music CD (1977)
Addicted To The Hustle music CDs
$14.45 Sparsely droning and arcing through 12 songs, Zev Feldman and Andy Statman swirl around each other on Jewish Klezmer Music. Originally recorded and released in 1979 and now available on CD through Shanachie, these songs are steeped in tradition and spark with the passionate fervor that clarinetist Statman is famous for. While today the instrumentation seems unusual, the paired clarinet and European hammer dulcimer (called the cymbalom) were long the chief instruments in klezmer music. Feldman's cymbalom intricately traces the melodies of Jewish dance and wedding celebrations, backed occasionally with bowed bass and mandolin, and usually chased by Statman's whirling clarinet. Ranging from the quietly introspective Old World "Gypsy Hora and Sirba" to the raucous and freewheeling "A Galitsanier Tantsel," the songs resonate with haunting authenticity, ...
| | 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best Of The Who CD (1999)
Addicted To The Hustle songs
$9.69 Recorded between October 26, 1965 and July 11, 1978. Includes liner notes by Joseph Laredo.
This is part of MCA's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series.
The end of the millennium made it easy for the music industry to put the rock stars of the 20th Century into historical perspective, a mutually beneficial phenomenon that provided both new marketing opportunities and a chance for the uninitiated to discover the treasures of rock's past. Such is the opportunity afforded by the 20TH CENTURY MASTERS series. To squeeze the entire history of a band as influential as the Who into a mere 10 tracks is no mean feat, but this compilation makes an admirable attempt. The iconoclastic fury of the Who's early years is aptly represented by "My Generation." "Pinball Wizard" fulfills the TOMMY quota for rock opera aficionados. "Won't Get Fooled Again" finds the band at the height of their bare-chested '70s glory. "Squeeze Box" shows the Who's often-neglected sense of humor. Ultimately, this collection is as representative as its time restrictions ...
| | Chet Atkins Guitar Country/More Of That Guitar Country CD (2001)
Addicted To The Hustle album
$12.29 Chet Atkins is a great guitar player. His fingerpicking style set the pace in the '50s, leading budding guitarists to play his LPs at slower speeds to discover the master's technique. Atkins' genius, however, has not always come across in the recording studio. As author of the Nashville sound, he has often found it expedient to add background singing, strings, and syrupy arrangements to his records. These problems crop up on Guitar Country/More of That Guitar Country, but they are less "problems" than distractions. Atkins, even in less than perfect situations, still plays guitar like no one else. He covers a number of classics -- "Sugarfoot Rag," "Freight Train," and "Nine Pound Hammer" -- but also shows himself to be a "with it" guy by tackling "Blowin' in the Wind" and Donovan's "Catch the Wind." Atkins' trademark style of combining chords with a steady bassline comes across wonderfully on Johnny Cash's "Understand Your Man" and the original "My Town." One would be remiss for not mentioning that More of That Country Guitar kicks off with "Yakety Axe," a lovely guitar romp like no other. It is perhaps odd, now that most music comes on CDs, to realize that many LPs lasted no more than ...
